Hola mon baratók, 😊
I finally contributed to the company today by getting paid to fix more than just one car!
I mean, I’ve been working a ton, but it’s been freebies, fixing other people’s mistakes, not getting things figured out, and then there’s been a whole lot of the managerial/secretarial/administrative stuff. So it’s nice to finally contribute by actually fixing people’s cars and getting paid directly for the work I’m doing instead of indirectly as the coordinator/secretary/foreman, etc.
So, yeah… today was reasonably simple, although there were the obligatory snags, of course. I did a battery replacement but the parts supplier sent the wrong part and didn’t even carry the right part, so I had to drive into town to the dealer to get the right battery. I also did a radiator fan replacement that I thought was a warranty swap, but it turns out he had two of the same kind of car, and it was the other one I did last year. I didn’t realize that until I took the fan in to get it exchanged, and they were like… “That’s a Ford part. That’s not from us.”
Fortunately, the guy didn’t give any stink about it (I was a little worried he would because he’s been a bit ornery lately, but no stink. just paid and was done.
I also did a couple of wheel bearings, one of which had a knuckle that was corroded so badly it took me probably over an hour just to clean the thing!
Anyway, yeah, the obligatory snags that pretty much always occur, but nothing crazy, which was nice.
Actually, I was supposed to do the wheel bearing job tomorrow, but I was looking at the schedule and the thought of possibly having a lighter day tomorrow if I pounded it harder today was rather appealing. So I busted my butt on the wheel bearing job, and I finished around 10, I think–making in total about a 15 hour day today, …which is actually fairly typical.
So what started out looking like another goose egg repair wise from yours truly (by like 2:30 or whatever, I still had yet to even complete a single car for the day), turned out just fine, and we actually did very well as a business today.
Nice to have one of those days today. 😊
There’s not really much to say other than that. I’m tired. And though I said I was looking forward to possibly having a lighter day tomorrow that will give me the chance to get the other stuff done that’s on the list that has been neglected, well… actually, I think it’s gonna be a pretty hectic day tomorrow trying to get a million things done and a lot of jobs done. I might get to sleep in a little bit, though, which would be fabulous, and I just might have time to actually get my exercise routine figure out and started.
We’ll see.
Anyway, gratitude. 😊
#1. I’m grateful that though I was terrible at hydrating myself today, I’m not feeling worse than I am. I can tell I’m dehydrated, and I’ve got a little headache, but otherwise, I’m good.
#2. I’m grateful it was such a beautiful day today. The weather was lovely, which was really nice. Sunny, cooler. Nice.
#3. I’m grateful to have had a really good money day. That feels nice after a few rough days in a row. I’m on my own tomorrow and Friday, so it’ll be a crazy couple of days being a one-man band. I’m this close to hiring someone to do all the non-repair work. I need to hire someone to be on call. I think I’m gonna take some serious steps in that direction.
If fact… I just added it to my to-do list. If I can get another mechanic hired and a secretary, then I should be able to start traveling and visiting family and friends and whatnot without feeling like I’m letting my business suffer.
#4. I’m grateful that I chose to stick with the wheel bearing job and finish it. The first one went sooooooo long, but the second one came off pretty easily and didn’t need nearly as much cleaning, so that was great.
#5. I’m grateful that my deoderant showed up in the mail six days early. I just ran out the day before yesterday, I think, and I rarely have time to go shopping at the actual store (I’m one of those awful people who adds to the workload of our poor USPS drivers, but I’m grateful for the work they do that allows me to use my time more efficiently.
Well, my peeps. Nothing really amazing today. Just… another day, and I’m tired enough that it’s probably not worth trying to write something that’s gonna take some brain power to put together.
Oh, It was the auction today, but I didn’t buy any cars, which is probably a good thing.
Just FYI. 😊
My mom will be happy. I’m still working on decreasing the surplus car population here. Probably better not add to it.
Oh again! We can add another day to the thingies (yes, my vocabulary is that good right now). Where does that put me? One moment while I consult yesterday’s journal to find out. Ok, here goes:
31, 39, 30, 4.
Yee haw 😊
