2020-05-23 — Bad Parts

It’s 1:43 a.m.

I’m just now leaving the last job of the day. I spent 4 hours trying to swap the starter out of a 1992 Nissan Pathfinder. First, I had to diagnose the issue. Then the first starter I got was bad out of the box, so we had to get a second one. I spent three hours trying to line it up and get it in properly, only to realize that it’s built improperly. The starter itself is built improperly. The solenoid sticks out so far that the hot wire smashes up against the frame of the car, which would cause an immediate short.

It took me about two and a half hours, though, to realize the difference in the solenoids. I just kept thinking that I had the cable on wrong, and with that starter, not only is it super hard to line everything up and get it bolted on, but in order to take the hot wire back off, you have to unbolt and take out the starter. So I had to install and remove the starter probably four times trying to figure out what on Earth was keeping it from lining up properly with the power wire. In the end, it was the starter itself. So I spent until past 1:30 this morning trying to get that job done, and ended up not getting to my last job of the day.

Extremely extremely extremely frustrating.

Other than that pretty awful end to the day, it was a pretty decent day. We would have broken some records today, I think, if it weren’t for those stupid starters.

I haven’t really eaten much today. I’m running on five eggs this morning and a half a piece of pizza. Not enough liquid.

Ugh.

Phone is wigging out. Screen keeps freezing up. Has to be one of my apps–thinking it’s Chrome, maybe, hogging all the phones RAM. Super hard to get anything done on a screen that’s nearly constantly frozen.

So frustrating.

Anyway, weird day today. We had five starters to do. Obviously didn’t get the last one done. Didn’t check the calendar, but it must be national starter-crap-out day. 😊 Super weird.

I’m so tired. Still haven’t exercised. Trying to decide what to do there. Just got home a few minutes ago. It’s 2:10. Probably not good for my depleted body to exercise today, so I’ll swap it with tomorrow and try and get myself caught up, so my body doesn’t put me in bed for two days.

I’m really gonna have to work hard for that not to happen, I think. I’m well over the edge, I think.

Perhaps the only thing keeping me vertical is the adrenaline from getting super angry with the starter issues.

So, five starters. I did three and… a half? And David did one plus 6 other vehicles.

Long long day.

Highlight of the day was a good conversation with an old Utah friend of mine. Nice to chat a bit. We always have good conversations, as he’s a deep thinker.

Anyway…

#1. I’m grateful that I am more reasonable today on swapping my exercise tomorrow. It’s just wouldn’t be smart to exercise tonight when I’m already so screwed up physically. I can be pretty rigid in my rules for myself, so it’s good for me to be a bit more flexible.

#2. I’m grateful that despite it being a very long day for both David and for me, it was a good day for both of us financially.

#3. I am grateful that I was able to get the Honda Civic starter that I had to do done more easily than in times past. It might have helped that I just barely did it in my own Honda Civic a week ago. 😊

#4. I am grateful to have an employee right now. Things are so busy, and it’s nice to be able to getting more done than just what I could do myself.

#5. I am grateful that I didn’t get eaten alive tonight buy mosquitoes in Bentonville when I thought I was being eaten alive.

Well, there you go. It’s been a long, good day with a rough ending. I may end up having to work a bit tomorrow, as I didn’t get to my last job of the day tonight, and I promised them that I would. I still offered to go, but they stopped replying back, so my guess is they went to bed.

I’m tired. Good night.

Lift the World.
