2020-06-24 — Got in a Fight With A Window Regulator…. And Lost.

Hola, my wonderful peeps! 😊

First of all, thanks, to Tish and HansandHeather for your comments. Much appreciated. I’ll work on being kinder to myself in the words that I use… and just in general. 😇

It’s 11:03. Happy Wednesday evening to you… or Thursday morning… or whatever it is when you read this… I hope you’ve had a wonderful day. It was a busy work day today. We did 9 cars (David six and I three), and even though I had all that time to prepare and get ready for today, I still managed to miss getting some cars on the schedule, and thus, I spaced even going to them today. ☹️ There were like three or four cars in that category! I didn’t remember until way late, offering to go over late if they wanted, but I didn’t get any takers (thankfully). In fact, I still haven’t heard back from at least one of them at all. 😬

Falling asleep.

I’ve been a lot shorter on sleep lately. I’m actually going to switch today’s exercise day with Saturday because #1. I need the sleep. #2. I got super dehydrated today, and #3. I didn’t eat anything today until I got back around 9:30 or so… so… It’s probably not going to be best for me to go strain my body and sweat further. I’m still trying to recover my hydration.

Falling asleep… over and over…

The first job of the day absolutely kicked my butt. I was just doing a window regulator/motor job for my nephew’s truck, and

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

well… it kicked my butt. I spent probably 45 minutes trying to get the right hardware from two different stores. Then I got to the job and tried to use the hardware, but I spent forever trying to get it to work, and I couldn’t, so I ordered rivets, but they didn’t have the correct size, so I called the other supplier, and they had the right size, and they told me they were going to bill me and deliver them, but they never showed, so I ended up finally figuring out how to get the hardware I’d bought to work, at least mostly. I ended up using some of the hardware I already had as well because some of the new stuff was junk. ☹️

Oh, and part of what made that job quite a bit of a pain (literally) was #1. I got my hand caught in the electric power window regulator/motor, and I got my thumb chewed up a bit. At first, looking in the gash, I thought I saw either a vein or a nerve or a tendon or something. It was a pretty deep gash, and right at the thumb joint (the one where the thumb disappears into the palm). Basically, my thumb got caught in the regulator while I was trying to run it to adjust positions, so I could properly install it, and it ended up pinching my thumb hard enough to put that deep gash in it.

Funny that it’s the same thumb that made friend with a beefy drill bit a year or two ago. I still have pretty much daily issues with that thumb because of the drillbit experience. Hopefully, this new issue won’t have long-term consequences. I’d add a picture, but WordPress is awful about making it easy to add photos to a post. It’s super awful. ☹️

Man… I’m just crashing…

As far as chronology is concerned, I did the window motor/regulator job. Then I put an alternator in a 2006 Acura RL (same motor as the MDX from yesterday, the one that gave me fits). That went in fine, but it’s reading at the low end of the acceptable level… Still acceptable, but on the lowest end. For the time being, it’s fine. We’ll see how it does in the future. He’s got a good warranty, so we’ll see how it goes.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

After that, it was just a simple battery job. I finished right at 8 p.m., my official closing hour, and then I headed to the parts store to get some things returned, to get some things looked up and ordered, and to get to bed.

David did a bunch of things, and it was a bit of work trying to keep him busy.

It’s looking like tomorrow might be a bit slow, which I’m not sad about, though I’m concerned and want to get David enough work.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I better express my gratitude and go to bed… I’m crashing hard, and I’m really dehydrated, so I can’t go to bed until I’m in a better place.

#1. I’m grateful it was a better work day today, able to get David a good, full day.

#2. I’m grateful I didn’t slice through tendons or nerves or arteries (or my whole thumb) with that window motor. There’s not much meat at all on my thumb joints, so for it to dig in a far as it did and to not have cut through anything really important is… nice.

#3. I’m grateful that I had backup parts in my car to get things squared away for the regulator job.

#4. I’m grateful that though the alternator was at the bottom end of the acceptable range, it was still acceptable, meaning I don’t have to try and figure that one out like the MDX (same motor… maybe same alternator itself?

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

#5. I’m grateful that stores are staying open a tad bit later. I was able to get some powerade, both to help me hydrate tonight and some for tomorrow–as well as about 20 cans of various “foods” (spagghetti o’s, spaghetti and meat balls.

Uh… some updates. I did have a couple of fliers today with the Ford Ranger window regulator giving me such grief. Interestingly, none of the flyers came out when I just about cut my thumb off., so that’s pretty good, and I did come extremely close to throwing out some premeditated ones, but I didn’t. I was so mad.

I’m still good in everything else. I’m hammered. Sorry, not much to say today. I’m just totally crashing. Good night!
