2021-01-25 — Smooth

I almost don’t even know how to react. Just… smiles. Why? Because the day is over and guess what? It went… smoothly!

It feels so… yay!!!

Got up… had to scramble a little bit because I didn’t do scheduling yesterday or Saturday night, so I got a late start to a busy day, but it went… well!

First job, alternator out by the lake. Check. Second job overheat at the Microtel in Bentonville (head gasket and coolant leaks…). Check. Third job, running rough (two lower compression cylinders and a misfire on cylinder two (the highest compression cylinder, go figure). Put in plugs and advised further. Check. Fourth job, check engine light after putting belt on (he’d unplugged a connector, I think, and his belt was super loose). Check. 5th job, car sitting for more than a year. Was a crank no start, then a no crank no start. Primed it and got it going. Check.

Returned parts to AutoZone. Ordered more. Boom. Day over. Long day. Much less money than I would be making were David still working for me, but… good day. Smooth. I mean, it wasn’t perfect, but… it was pretty darn smooth, and my last job gave me an $80 tip! 😁

Schedule is already loaded for tomorrow, and full for Wednesday already as well (people are getting their stimulus checks, so… yeah… that boosts the number of jobs that come in for sure).

I also had a customer mention he was looking for a job, and I was thinking that it might be nice to have someone to run around with me during the day to take calls, text while we drive, order parts, get tools, do quotes, etc. Just a… helper, and all of the sudden, here’s this young 20-something guy who’s needing a job and seems like a good kid.

I’m… thinking about it.

Obviously, I’m in the middle of some major thinking about what I’m going to be doing with my life, so it might not even come to that, but heck, if I can give the kid a job right now, even if just for a little while, he’ll have an income that will cover his bills, an income he doesn’t have right now, and… that’s a blessing to him.

We’ll see. I’m… cogitating.

So… 9:30. Haven’t worked on the trails in a while. That’s a want for me right now. I’d like to get those done and going. I think I’m going to order a grappling hook from Amazon to help pull down rotten limbs from higher than I can get to. We’ll see.

Anyway, there you have it. Sooooooo nice to finally have a day that didn’t fight me at every turn. I didn’t write about the gazillion crazy things that went wrong, again and again and again over the last week. No need to. We all understand those times.

#3. I’m grateful that though I’ve got a significant hit to the pocket book right now, I’m not really all that concerned about it. Yes, it’s nice to have additional money. But I’m still doing just fine. Money ain’t the world. It’s just money. Quite common.

#4. I’m grateful to be able to lift people through mechanic work, people happy with me, with the work I do, getting them out of binds, helping them save money, helping them figure things out on their own as well.

#5. I’m grateful to be in bed before 10. Heck, I’m grateful to be home before 10.

#6. Two days, clean and sober. We started again. And we’ll start again again if need be. We never give up. Why? Because…
