Seven cars today. No records. Just lots and lots of work. Running and gunning the day away on four hours of sleep.
First one… gentleman needed help with his fuel pump (Tahoe), getting it back in. Turns out O’reilly’s gave him the wrong part, and the poor man had spent I think four days trying to get it to work. But now he knows, and I gave him some suggestions as well.
Second one… belt came off. Ford F250. At first, I could find nothing wrong, contrary to the norm (usually something causes the belt to shred/come off. But I couldn’t find the problem, so I put the new belt on that he’d purchased. But then the new belt shredded (after I’d left), and he came by my third job, and I re-diagnosed, and found the water pump pulley was bad (just like one would suspect). Not sure how I missed it the first time… guess I didn’t get enough leverage on it the first time. I still have to get him a quote for the water pump.
Third job was a no start… Ford F150… turned out to be the starter.
Fourth job… 2006 Honda Accord alternator. Quick job.
Fifth job 2006 VW Jetta. He wanted me to put in an alternator without diagnosis because someone had told him it was the alternator. It’s an expensive job, and I told him I’d diagnose it, and if it indeed was the alternator, I would do the diagnosis free. It wasn’t the alternator. So… that saved him $500+, which he was rather happy about, but his car appears to perhaps have something crazy wrong with it. Like 14 check engine codes… I’m thinking either the computer or the main fuse block. Who knows, though. Probably will take a ton to figure out what’s wrong with it, unless it was just a loose battery cable… so… we’ll see if something else comes up.
Sixth job… 2014 MDX no start. Just needed a battery.
Seventh job… no start. Bad battery and parasitic draw, likely in the fuse block.
Eighth job… didn’t get finished… got bigger and bigger as it went on. So… lots left to do on that one.
That was the day… long, hard, but productive.
Got the info needed to my accountant… I think, at least.
Another long day tomorrow. Crazy busy.
