Things have been slowing down a bit. Not as many calls, and I’ve been turning down probably more than half of what’s coming in anyway.
I need the slowdown.
Only did 4 cars today and got home around… 6?
Didn’t really accomplish anything after getting home. I’d hoped to, but I didn’t do much. Just… wasted time, mostly.
I did save a customer $500+, though. My second customer asked me to replace his starter, which is a bit of a big deal in that particular truck, as it’s under the intake manifold. He told me he didn’t want me to diagnose it, just to replace the starter, but when I got there, I looked at the battery, and it looked like it was in bad shape, so I tried to start it, and the issue was clearly a voltage issue not a starter issue, so I went against his wishes and diagnosed it anyway (he was out of town while I was at his truck), and… boom… battery. That’s it.
So I let him know, and that freed up what was going to be a really busy day.
Anyway, first job was about brake noises. Checked the brakes. Seemed fine. I got the brake noise to go away by slamming on the brakes. Noise never came back. 🙃
Second job was the starter/battery thing. Third job was a truck that had a weird lack of power issue when accelerating. It was misfiring… badly… but not at idle and not after 2700 RPMs, just between. Took me a little while, but I finally figured out the MAF was bad. I unplugged it, and the misfires went away completely.
Boom.
Third job was a starting issue… battery was completely drained down, but it was brand new. Turned out that the car had multiple parasitic draws, so she’s just going to deal with them, as it’d probably be fairly expensive to figure out exactly what’s causing them.
And… that was it. I forgot to mention that I cleaned my van out and organized it yesterday. That was good. Nice to have stuff cleaned and organized today. I’m grateful to have the van. I’m reminded of what cleaning out my other work vehicles had been like. Hours and hours of work. So much nicer in this one. I’m gonna put more shelves in it, to make it even easier.
Did make a little tax progress today. Gonna get some to-do stuff done tomorrow. Lots of stuff that’s been hanging on for a long long time. Cross your fingers. Maybe we’ll make some progress, eh?
Another day has passed… On to another.
