Hey, folks!
Happy Tuesday. 🙂 Just a quick post today, as I’m feeling a little… not-so-great emotionally at the moment. Disappointed in myself right now and a little worried, rationally or irrationally, I don’t know, but that’s where I’m at right at the moment.
Took it easy today. Tried to get my neighbor’s car figured out (2004 VW Passat). He’s having power steering noise issues, and I think it could just because he’s got the wrong power steering fluid in it. I’m not sure, but he put the wrong stuff in it, and the new pump is making noise. I’m not really familiar with VWs much, other than I really really don’t like working on them because they’re just… yeah… a pain in the tail; but my friend Miguel knows them better than I do, and he said the wrong fluid can definitely cause the noise.
So I got the really expensive VW power steering fluid, only to realize after I got there, that I had the wrong really expensive VW specialty fluid. I needed a different specialty vw power steering fluid.
So… after weeks, perhaps months, of not getting over there, I finally went, only to find I wasn’t prepared.
Fun.
Part of me was relieved, because it was another opportunity to not have to deal with a VW, but it does mean that I have to come back again, and the job hangs over my head even longer.
Lovely.
Anyway, I managed to figure out the correct fluid, after I don’t know how long of cumulative searching and cross referencing and whatnot.
After that, I was already in my work van, so I figured I might as well head out and work a bit. Mostly I just took parts back and bought more parts to be ready for tomorrow and the coming days. I did do one job diagnosis, though, as it was rather close to the AutoZone where I was doing all my parts returns and purchases.
It was a Ford Escape with a coolant leak–similar to the one I did last week… or whenever it was. A little different, but also quite similar. It reminded me of watching Sandy Munro disassemble the Ford Mustang Mach E, I think it was, with a cooling system that looked like a huge jumble of hoses and pipes and whatnot. It was… ridiculous looking… and that’s how I feel about the cooling system on this escape. There’s pipes and hoses and tubes everywhere. Tubes coming out of tubes (literally). The tube that was broken, had it not been for the fact that it was leaking coolant and led to both the radiator and the pressure tank, I would have never guessed it was holding coolant. It looked like a vacuum line.
Anyway, so he’s got three hoses that need to be replaced, and even though it’s a little tiny engine, it’s so crammed in there with a gazillion cables and pipes and hoses running here, there, and everywhere, that it’s not going to be pretty trying to get it apart and everything replaced. It’s likely gonna be a rough one.
So… that’s on the docket for Thursday–to do the actual repair after today’s diagnostic.
Anyway, after that, I headed home. I did… I think it was today? Make some progress on getting my 2021 Business property tax assessment done. I’m actually pretty close to having that done, which is a monumental thing, as last years took me so so so long.
I’m getting there, folks. I’m getting there. I also got some boxes to put my business papers in–using coolant boxes from AutoZone. They’re not quite the correct shape for paper, but I’ll make them work. Doesn’t have to be pretty, just has to be kept for a handful of years before I can recycle it. So… old coolant boxes it is! Recycle! 🙃
Well, it’s almost one. I’d better go to bed. I’ve apparently said yes quite a bit lately, as I have 18 cars on the schedule.
Oops.
Guess business isn’t slow. 🙃
In other news, glad the Russian reporter who protested on Russian state TV is ok. Though I don’t like how partisan our major media outlets are and how much agenda peddling appears to go on, I’m at least grateful for freedom of the press here. If the stories are true from those who supposedly live in Russia talking about the affects of the propaganda the Russian state peddles, it’s chilling–with Russian citizens thinking what’s happening is to protect Russia from a dangerous west.
And despite the reports that the Russian people who trust the Russian state media support the war and are angry with the west and blame the west for what’s going on because we hate Russia, I still believe that the vast majority of us are good people, including those very Russians who purportedly feel that way about us and support what they think is happening.
Love to all.
