2022-03-20 — A Little Bit of Everything

Hello, Wonderfuls. 😊

It’s coming up on 1 a.m. Hope you all had a lovely spring equinox. 🙂

Today has been a little bit of everything. I woke up feeling a bit… bleh… but then I was like, no, I’m going to make a to-do list and get my little butt workin’. So I started listing out things I need to get done (like i mentioned the other night, in order to finish up with all the business stuff that’s still hanging that’s left to do).

Just a few minutes into making the list, I felt the energy start to enter in, and a drive to accomplish as much from the list as I could. So… I did! And I got all of the following done–not necessarily in this order:

  • Got the metal moved from being by the driveway over to the metal pile.
  • Ordered a part I needed to fix one of the cars here on the home front.
  • Got the dump cart tires aired up (though that’s only temporary, as they’ve got slow leaks).
  • Ordered a fuel filter and oil filter for the lawnmower. Will pick up tomorrow.
  • Fixed (well… improved) the shelving in my work van. It carries so much weight that it was bent and mashed over. Wouldn’t be so damaged if I lived in the city, but the wild swings of heavy weights from our country roads/speed bumps is a bit tough on the big guy.
  • Got the car batteries that have been sitting in the garage moved to my work van.
  • Got my battery trickle charger situated, so I can relatively easily charge the used batteries that I have in my van while my van sits in the driveway overnight–also allowing me to have the trickle charger with me while working instead of home tending batteries that need to be either sold or junked.
  • I got the lawnmower started. I cleaned up all the trash that was next to the driveway.
  • I got all the cardboard loaded up and ready to take to the recycler.
  • I got the water siphoned out of the diesel fuel buckets and the buckets consolidated a bit.
  • I got February sales taxes submitted.
  • I verified January sales taxes were correct.
  • I went through all my purchases on my main business card from Jan 1 to Feb. 28, verifying that everything was properly accounted for.
  • I created a design plan for the garden, should we ever decide to execute it. It’s a semipermanent design doing raised grow boxes with cement blocks instead of treated lumber. The design and layout is all set. Don’t know if we’ll ever do it, but it’s ready to go if we do.
  • Got some laundry done.
  • Cleaned out the back of my van and got it better organized.

Probably did some more as well, but that was pretty decent. The bulk of my time was spent designing the garden layout.

Anyway, good to make progress on things that need to get done. Nice to have the trash cleaned up by where I park my van. When I get super busy (come home late, leave early), I take the trash out of the van and toss it to the side, so I have room in my van. I have two big black bins to put it in–one bin for recyclables and one for trash, but as crazy as things get, my piles can get a little out of hand, so it was nice to get that cleaned up today.

Tomorrow (today, I guess) is stock buy day, day #1. I haven’t bought stocks since I was picking stocks for my 401k back in… 2005ish? when I was teaching at the University of Utah. So, this’ll be fun, and it’s a completely different focus/effort this time.

Should be fun. 😊

I still have a ton to learn. I’m just going to be playing with small sums to start with. The government kills you on taxes for short-term capital gains taxes vs long-term gains. And you can only write off $3000 in losses. So that’s… odd.

Should be a fun Monday morning. I’m not gonna jump right into day trading the way other people do it. I’ve got a strategy I came up with as a teenager, and 20+ years later, I haven’t found a strategy that I like better than the one I came up with way back when, so… I guess I’ll see how my teenage wisdom works out. 🙃

Well, time for bed, folks. It’s 1:20, and I’ll be up earlier than normal to get myself ready for the trading day. Love to all!

Lift the World.
