Another wonderfully rainy day. Perfect temperature. Beautiful rain. It was lovely.
It was also another day without internet, well much of the day. Internet came back sometime around 4:00-4:30 ish, I believe.
Didn’t really do much today. I tried to finish fixing the AC on my little Z4, but I ran into issues at every. single. turn. First, the brand new AC compressor that was supposed to have had 3 oz of oil in it from the factory had… almost none in it? When I pulled the plugs and tried to drain the oil out (standard practice with a new compressor), perhaps 5-10 drops came out.

Not sure what the deal was there. That was… not encouraging.
From there, I wanted to put the compressor in, but the little guide pins that are supposed to be in the compressor, but when removing the main lines, one of the guide pins came out with the line, and… I couldn’t get it out of the line. I tried and tried and tried and tried.
But I failed.
Then I noticed that the end of the line was damaged anyway. It would probably still work, but as much of a main in the butt as this has been, I don’t want to risk it, so I’m going to order a new AC line.
Ugh.
And then I noticed that one of the little spacers that goes between the AC compressor and the AC compressor bracket was damaged and unusable.
Ugh.
And then I noticed that one of the bolts that holds the AC lines to the compressor was stripped.
Ugh.
And then it was a pain in the butt to get the AC line out.
Ugh.
Eventually, I got the old AC line out. I decided to not worry about the amount of oil in the AC compressor but to just put it all together and pay Miguel to hook it up to his expensive machine and have the machine do it all automatically from there.
So… I need to order a new bolt. I need to order a new spacer. I need to order a new hose. I need to put it all back together, and I need to bring it to Miguel and hope that his machine can figure out the oil and recharging stuff.
(sigh)
Still looking for engines for the Dodge as well. Found a couple of options in Texas and Oklahoma. I’ll check on those tomorrow. I was gonna do a rebuilt engine, but it’s… so much more work, and I don’t seem to read much good with regard to aftermarket rebuilt engines.
So… though roughly the same price, I think I’m gonna go used engine with roughly the same (or fewer miles).
I started working again on my “What I Believe” page on this blog/thing. So many things going on in the world today. So many hopeful things. So many concerning things.
Spent a little while working on the phonetic stuff. Bits of progress.
