2022-05-27 — Zzzzz

Well, I did it: I stayed up all night, so I’m rather exhausted right now. It’s 8:30, and I’ll be in bed shortly. Cross your fingers that I’ll be able to get my rhythm back to good soon.

Four… wait… five? cars today. Finally back to work. First car was… what was it. First car was a 2003 Toyota Highlander that wouldn’t start. After a bit of poking and prodding around, I realized that hear shifter was in the park position, but the car wasn’t in park. Since the neutral safety switch makes it so that a car can’t start unless it’s in Park or Neutral, the car wouldn’t start.

I traced the issue to a busted transmission cable bushing where it connects to the gear shift assembly.

The official part to fix the car was special order and like $500, plus labor and tax on top of that. So I pointed them to bushingfix.com where they can get just the bushing ($24.99) instead of having to buy the whole cable assembly. So they’re going to buy the bushing and let me know when they have it, and I’ll install it for them.

Second car was a 2010 Ford F150 no start in the parking lot of the Walmart Super Center on MLK Jr. blvd. Given that they’d just replaced the battery and alternator in the last month or so, I figured it’d probably be a starter, so I bought a starter, but it turned out to be just super corroded cables. I spent a good while cleaning them up, but that got ’em going.

Third car was a radiator replacement in a 2006 Kia Spectra. Fourth car was putting a spare tire on a truck on the side of the freeway. I didn’t really think about it being on the side of the freeway he called (we don’t generally do freeway jobs, as the old lady who wasn’t quite paying attention and nearly sideswiped me demonstrates the rationale [for not doing those jobs]).

Fifth car was a diagnostic on a 2004 Nissan Pathfinder that was super freaky to drive. When putting on the brakes the vehicle would often move sideways instead of just slow down. 😬

Lots and lots and lots of bad steering and suspension parts.

So… now I’m home, and… it’s 8:41, and I’m gonna visit the porcelain gods and crawl into bed. In that order.

Love to all.
