2022-07-10 — My Favorite Canyon

Tossed and turned, my brain churning and churning. A million thoughts racing and keeping me awake.

When I finally feel asleep again, I had a dream that things were finally possible with a special someone, after waiting and waiting and waiting, but then… she didn’t want me.

Not a very fun dream.

But that’s ok. Just a regular dream. Not anything special.

So… today was a hiking day. I’d meant for it to be a pondering day and a hiking day, but no, just a hiking day. (That’s typically what happens. I plan to go up into the mountains to think, but then I end up just hiking around the whole time, and I’m not very good at thinking well I’m hiking.)

Still, it was a beautiful hike. I went to my favorite side Canyon at Provo canyon. Climbing up above upper falls and hiking to each of probably nearly 20 waterfalls. Below are 2 of the many many.

I helped a college kid and his younger brother climb the big big waterfall (not the one in the picture) showing them how to get up to the place where it’s actually safe to climb up the rest of the way. I’ve climbed it from the bottom before, but that was many many years ago, back when I took more risks than I’m willing to take these days.

It’s fun to show people the places I love. I hope someday to show them to my special someone, assuming I managed to connect with my special someone while I’m still young enough to keep going up there. 🙃

After getting down, I went over to the footbridge and jumped in the river, to rinse off the sweat as well as to get the dirt off my shoes. When you’re hiking to that many waterfalls, it’s pretty much a given that your shoes are going to get soggy, and then after getting soggy, they get dirty and dusty and grimy and covered with dirt and rocks and pine needles and all that good stuff. So a quick jump in the river, cleans off not only the sweat, but the nasty shoes, and then.. you’re done. 😊

After that, I drove over to a park in pleasant Grove area, where I cleaned out my cooler and emptied out some trash and whatnot. Then I headed over to my brother’s house to meet my sister who’s heading back to Washington early in the morning. I showed her and my brother some of the pictures and videos I took on the hike, and then we said goodbye.

Right now I’m back at one of my other old stomping grounds for camping in my car–the Springville Super Walmart. Back in 2010 when I lived in my car for nearly a year straight, I spent many a night at this walmart. It’s a little more challenging now after covid, since apparently none of the supercenters are 24 hours anymore. It’s always nice to go in and use the bathroom and buy some stuff and be ready for the next adventure. But, it’s after midnight, and they’re closed, so… Not quite like old times.

Heading to Payson in the morning to help my mom with my aunt well my other aunt and uncle are at a surgery appointment.

It was a beautiful, hot day today. I am thoroughly enjoying the dry heat here. It’s like it’s not even hot at all.

I decided to check the forecast in Arkansas for the next 10 days, and there will be several above 100°. I don’t think there have been any days over 100° since I moved there in 2016, but I guess days over 100 were a regular thing not that many years ago according to my mom, so… I guess it’s not anything crazy, just not anything that I’ve experienced since I’ve been in arkansas.

Not looking forward to going back to the humidity at all. Wish there were still places in Utah that were out in the country that weren’t crazy expensive, nor crazy cold, nor crazy desert. All the nice places have already been packed with people.

Oh well.

Time for bed, folks. It’s almost 12:30 mountain Time, and I need to be up at 6 something to head over to payson.

Love and hugs.
