2022-08-13 — Rest Day, ah….

Hiya, folks!

I’m ready for my day off. 😊 And I’m going to go to bed soon–before 11!!! I’ve got 17 minutes, and I’m not taking no for an answer. πŸ™ƒ

I’m just really tired. In an effort to get Malaki a bunch of work hours, we’ve been working long days most of the week. Today was another one of those, though Malaki finished about 4:45 today instead of 9:00 or something like that which is been the norm for the last several days we’ve worked.

Started about the normal time. Replaced diagnosed a Kia Spectra and replaced the alternator. It took a lot longer than hoped, but we got it done. Second job was a lot easier. It was a 2016 Equinox the customer wanted us to install new VVT solenoids. They were crazy hard to get out. Never seen VVT solenoids be that hard to get out. They’re just one bolt each, but they took probably 30 minutes to get out. It was nutty. They were just… stuck in there and super tight fitting.

Third car was a no crank no start 2018 Dodge Charger that appeared to be the starter, but after a few hiccups, it started just fine every time, so he’s gonna wait for it to stop working again, and then we’ll go out and fix it.

After that, we went to a 2015 GMC Sierra diesel truck. Malaki felt like he could do that one (he’s got a bit of experience with diesel trucks), so I added it to the schedule. Malaki found the problem, but it ended up being a bit more than what it first appeared. The owners had just the day before had a new fuel filter put on, but they found that they were leaking diesel fuel pretty badly.

Why?

Well, because the shop that put it on forgot to put the o-ring on the filter, so it wasn’t sealing properly.

Whoops.

So he fixed that leak, with us installing a new OEM filter (instead of the made in Taiwan filter it had), etc., but then it still wouldn’t start. After a long time trying to start it, I went over and realized the fuel pump wasn’t kicking on at all. I tried to use my scan tool to get it going, and the command was successful, but the pump still wouldn’t turn on. So I jumped it at the relay, but still nothing. Fuses fine. Power going back to the pump, but no pump making any noise.

So… unfortunately for the owner, it was an expensive couple of days, and it’s gonna get worse, as it appears the fuel pump was burned out–perhaps by running for so long with the leak? πŸ˜•

I honestly don’t know.

Malaki headed home after that, and I headed to plug a tire that had a big fatty screw in it. Once I finished that, I headed to a 2009 Civic that supposedly had a mountain of problems, but after spending a while diagnosing, it was pretty… unremarkable. Nothing was super bad. There were a couple things to keep an eye on and plan for a repair in the near future, but nothing major.

Last car was a 2009 Chevrolet malibu. They’d tried to put a belt on, but the person doing it didn’t have any idea what he was doing, despite saying he did. So he took off the motor mount in order to take the belt off, which… doesn’t really help much at all.

But, that’s what he did, leaving the engine dangling without support from the motor mount. 😢

Whoops.

It took a little while to get everything together that h’ed taken apart, but in the end, I got it all together. They were happy, and so was I, feeling like I was turning a corner and feeling happy and upbeat.

That was nice.

So tired. I’m starting to dream write (start one sentence writing about my journal topics but falling asleep as I’m writing and “finishing” the sentence with my dream topic. πŸ™ƒ

Goodnight, all.

Love and hugs.
