2022-08-16 — Let it Rain

Holar, folks. 😊

Today has been another one of those dragging days–for both Malaki and myself. In fact, halfway through the day, we just took a break and went to McDonald’s, despite having a lot to do.

You know how hard it is to find vegan stuff at McDonald’s? 🙃 They don’t even sell salads anymore!!! Good gravy.

Anyway, several cars. Some big discounts.

Malaki did a 2018 Dodge Caravan on his own. It needed a battery. Then there was a Jeep Compass that had a broken belt (belt missing). This one broke because of a seized AC compressor. Fortunately, for our customer, the Compass was made with non-AC options, so there was a belt that we could use to bypass the AC compressor, so the vehicle could be driven, just without AC/defrost.

Next it was a Nissan Maxima that had a pretty good-sized power steering pressure line leak, but he also had metal in the PS fluid (not to mention he’d been using the wrong fluid). With the metal in the system, I didn’t feel good about doing the job (not that I wanted to anyway), but Flushing power steering systems… I don’t do flushes of any kind as a mobile mechanic.

Next was a Suzuki Vitara stuck in park–probably an issue with the brake pedal sensor, but they had a mechanic who said it was wiring, so we just taught the lady how to bypass the switch, and they can do that as long as they want, or they can take it to their mechanic and have them fix what they diagnosed. They’re ready to go, whatever they want to do.

Then it was a Ford Taurus that was stranded because they were leaking tranny fluid. We filled it up, but they’d mixed in the wrong kind of tranny fluid, so we made our recommendations, and they’ll decide what they want to do. Last car was an ’06 sentra that was a no crank, no start. After testing a bunch of different things, I found that the clutch pedal safety switch bushing had dry rotted and fallen out.

I hate those things. They do them to brake pedals as well. An absolutely devilish design for the single purpose of making money. There’s absolutely no need to put a plastic bushing there when a little metal extension would have worked forever and ever and ever. But no, they cut a little donut hole in the metal in order to put in a bushing in place that will rot and fall out.

It’s late. After 1 now. Almost 1:30. Tomorrow is going to be crazy. Like 12 cars on the schedule.

😶

Sent some messages to my the real estate agent about the property across the way. They dropped the price, but it’s still way more than what I’m gonna be willing to pay for it.

But the agent said we’ll talk and see. Who knows.

Best be gettin’ to bed.

Heavy thunderstorm tonight. Lots of rain in the forecast these next two weeks. Good stuff. We badly need it.

Looking forward to New Zealand. 😊 This is via a Lord of the Rings eye, but still… look at the landscape!!! So excited to be there, camp there, hike there, swim there…

Lift the World

Bring it on.
