Hiya, folks. 😊
Happy Wednesday 😊
Less draggy day today, which was nice. At first, I thought today might lend the opportunity to break a record for most cars completed in a day. We had like… 12 on the schedule, and none of them seemed like possible black holes, so there seemed the potential for a record-breaking day.
It didn’t take long, though, for some customers to postpone or cancel or not get back to us until it was too late to get them today. So… that record didn’t fall today. But… another one did.
Malaki made the most money in a day that he’s ever made, in large part because he got a huge tip from one customer. 😊 So that was pretty awesome. Took a lot of work today, though.
First car was a 2012 Chevrolet Cruze. And like pretty much all small Chevrolet cars with the 1.4 or 1.8 engines, it had massive cooling system issues, overheated, and blew a head gasket. He asked us to go ahead and replace the burst hose anyway, but the poor engine is done for.
We replaced the hose, and went on our way. It was a miserable pain because there was so much oil and coolant sludge everywhere, so I couldn’t get good grips on any parts or my tools or anything. It was pretty disgusting and frustrating, but we got it done.
Second car was my first Tesla ever, which had a busted window regulator. Of course, being a Tesla, I couldn’t get the part, so we just had to lock it up in place.
Easier said than done. His Model S is like a BMW where the windows go up a tad bit after you close the doors. Not only that, but it was a dual-slide window regulator. Both of those realities made it a massive challenge to put the window glass up in position, as it was a constant battle of adjusting and readjusting my clamps to get the glass to sit just low enough as to clear the window trim but just high enough not to let rain in.
Not easy. Not easy at all.
Third car was a battery job that Malaki did on his own. I finished the Tesla while he went off to do that one. He then headed to a 2010 Toyota FJ Cruiser that needed an alternator, and while he did that one, I diagnosed a no start on a 2017 Dodge Ram (starter), diagnosed an engine noise on a 2011 Nissan Altima (power steering fluid leak from the power steering pressure hose was causing the power steering pump to whine), and put a headlight bulb in a 2011 Chevrolet Equinox.
Poor Malaki had to deal with a pretty hefty hiccup with the FJ: The alternator I ordered turned out to be the wrong part. The system said it was right, but nope… so that wasted some of his time, making the job take a good bit longer than it should have.
We actually ended relatively early–about 6. There was one more job we could have done, but I was… ready to be done. It had been a successful day.
Rained a ton last night. I went out this morning, and there were probably… 4 inches or so in the bins I’d left outside. Gratefully, it didn’t rain much during the day, just a little bit during the first job, and some Seattle-style mist during the second, but I was in a garage for that one, anyway.
It’s just about 10:45.
Oh! I had… weird dreams all night. I don’t remember what they were. I want to say I had like mini nightmares all night, waking up like every 30 minutes, kind of thing. I don’t remember. Don’t think they were happy dreams.
Pretty crazy.
Anyway, lots to do, but it’s time for bed, and I’m ready for bed. Think Malaki is gonna take tomorrow off (And Thursdays each week for the foreseeable future).
Gotta go, folks.
Bring it on.
Oh!
- I’m grateful we got a lot done in what ended up being a shorter day than normal.
- I’m grateful that none of the jobs today got too out-of-control awful. The first was the worst. The rest were… decent, and a couple were just plain easy.
- I’m grateful for an earlier night’s sleep.
- I’m grateful that Malaki was able to do a couple jobs on his own today.
- I’m grateful for the rain we needed having come at a time that made it possible to get our customers taken care of–7 more customers today.
