When my friend Cory noticed that I was gonna get home around 5:30 from work today, he jokingly said something to the effect of, “I guess this means you’ll get your post up about 1:30?” (referring to the fact that I apparently seem to get my posts published way late on days I come home relatively early. 🙃)
Let’s see if I can break from that today. 🙂
‘Tis 11:32.
Malaki is gonna be taking Thursdays off from here on out, so I was flying solo again today. Three and a half jobs today. With the first one, I shot myself in the foot by not telling a customer that I don’t do jobs with parts from places other than my chosen supplier. (He wanted a Napa starter). So… I picked up the starter, headed out to the country by the lake where he was, pulled the starter out (which was a bit of a challenge on it’s own, as he had mix-and-match bolts, two of them 12-point 10mm bolts).
Anyway, that lovely Napa starter?
Bad out of the box.
And since it was a Napa starter, I don’t get to turn in a labor claim with the bad starter. 😕 Oh well. Not a big deal, just a waste of my time because of a bad decision on my part.
Second car, an old Honda CR-V was a super easy battery job. That was nice. Third car (2016? Jeep Patriot) was a relatively easy battery job/coolant top off. It was a no start that had been overheating before not starting. It was nice that it was just a simple dead battery, and it looked like the coolant leak was just an issue with the radiator cap. So… another easy one. 🥳 Last job I did was an ’04 Camry that wouldn’t start as well. Any guesses on why?
Yup. Third battery of the day. In addition to solving the no-start issue, the guy wanted me to look over the car as it was his ex wife’s, and he wanted to make sure the car was going to be safe for his kid when he was with her.
One sidewise thing with that, I accidentally rippled the fender checking his struts. It was so slight that you couldn’t even really see anything at all, but I stressed over it for a while, trying to unripple it for a good while before giving up. Gratefully, the customer didn’t bat an eyelish. You really couldn’t even tell at all. It was super slight, and you could only tell by feel, not by sight.
I was supposed to do one more job, a water pump on a 2019 Dodge Charger, but it was move-in night for the college students, and the job was in the parking garage. So… nope. Not happening.
So… that was it today. I called Cory to give me an extra little boost in my effort to get past the grocery star without stopping for sweets. I fell back into that after getting depressed… months ago? Been hard to get back into the healthy eating groove.
So, it was progress today.
- I’m grateful to have had a relatively easy day.
- I’m grateful for battery jobs. Those are nice.
- I’m grateful for portable fans to blow on you when you’re hot.
- I’m grateful it’s finally cooling off to normal summer temperatures (mid 80s).
- I’m grateful for vegetarian chili and chips. Tasty.
