2022-08-22 — Let’s Move Forward, Eh?

So… I didn’t go to bed right after writing my post last night: I ended up working on the dictionary until about 6:15 a.m.🙃 So… with that and then getting up at 7:30 to start the day, I was… a bit tired. 😴

And slap happy. 🙃

Gratefully, the migraine fun had taken leave for a little while (and it’s been gone all day 🥳). And it was a bit of a different day today. Why? Well… it started off super slow. I only had one car on the schedule when the day started–an easy battery job that I sent Malaki on by himself.

Not having any idea if the day was going to blow up or if it was going to stay quiet, but having nothing else immediately on the schedule, I had him swing by my place because my hill brother Jim needed some work done on his Nissan Sentra, and I told him I’d do it for him, so that got added to the day’s list of cars. Then I figured if nothing else came up, then I’d pay him out of my own pocket to fix the AC in my Z4.

But, the day didn’t follow that trajectory very well. We ran into a snag with the Sentra. Jim wanted us to put on some new struts, but unfortunately, the struts he bought weren’t loaded struts, thus requiring the transfer of the springs from the old assembly to the new assembly.

So… that stopped us dead in our tracks, and Malaki didn’t have the car pulled all the way in the garage (we were expecting to finish it, so it didn’t seem like a problem at the time), so now my garage is open, which will be a more open invitation for bugs to infiltrate my garage space.

😬

So when we hit that snag, it wasn’t too big of a deal because in the meantime, I’d scheduled three more jobs for today–a belt on a 2006? Hyundai Azera 3.8 (a bit of a pain, but Malaki got it done), a battery in a 2016 Mercedes c300, and a battery in a 2012 Chrysler 200. They didn’t all go smoothly, but he got them done.

Meanwhile, I was able to get some other things done toward getting projects squared away that have been on the docket for a while. I finally got the peg legs on my dump trailer, which means I can load my heavy equipment in my dump trailer without having to worry about pully up really hard on the hitch. So that was good.

I also got the license plate mounted on it. I had to drill two holes in the gate, but it’s done now. As a side note, the gate doesn’t work very well, so that’s a disappointment. I have got to learn to put the stuff I buy through the test immediately. I tend to wait to use it until I need it, and only then do I find issues with it, and by then, it’s often too late.

What else… I dumped the cement bags down at the creek. They’ve been sitting on the garage for well over a year, I think, more effective at creating a residential palace for brown recluses than anything else. But they’re down their now. I purposefully left them out in the rain during our four-inch night in the hopes they’d solidify and create big, heavy blocks to help build up the wall of the creek right where the bank is.

Anyway, what else… I pulled the poison ivy vines out of the base of the oak tree jut past the dog runs in the back. I pulled up a ton of other vines and weeds from around that tree and tried to flatten the earth and piles of stuff up enough to make it relatively mowable.

Speaking of mowable. It’s close to time to need to go mow again.

What else… uh… the day is a blur. I’m tired and need to go to bed.

Was nice to have Malaki out working today on his own. That’s good for him (he did really well money wise today. Broke his personal best for most money made in a day. In fact, he wasn’t too far off from making more in a day than many of my other mechanics did on their best days, so… go Malaki!

I’m tired, but still could stay up a long long time, but given that I’m running on fumes, I’d best get my little but to bed, I think.

Well, folks.

  1. I’m grateful to have a head free of pain at the moment.
  2. I’m grateful that Malaki was able to do a handful of jobs on his own today. That was good stuff.
  3. I’m grateful for showers. I finally got a little shower today.
  4. I’m grateful to have heavy equipment. I used my skid steer briefly today to help with the weeds/earth moving stuff today, and Jim was able to borrow my mini excavator to dig a hole to bury my nephew Stevie’s dog in. He had to put his poor little dog down today after the erlichiosis came back with a vengeance. 😕
  5. I’m grateful the day tomorrow filled in pretty good with jobs.
