I took it relatively easy today. I sent Malaki on two jobs that I felt like he could do on his own, and as best as I can tell, he did beautifully. He’s really young, so it’s that much more impressive when the customers mention how much he knows and how well he did. Good stuff! And it’s nice for Malaki, as I give him $5 per 5-star review he gets from customers, which… can add up quickly!
So Malaki did an alternator on a 2009 Ford Mustang V6, which was scheduled for 9:00, and he texted me at 9:07 saying it was done. 🙃
Go Malaki!
After that, he did the water pump job that I diagnosed yesterday–the 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 4.7. It took him a little longer than it could have, only because he didn’t have the right tools. He probably would have been done 30 minutes earlier had he had a scan tool. He ended up having to go rent one because there was an unexpected hiccup with the job (the gentleman’s temperature gauge wasn’t working properly, so Malaki couldn’t verify the temperature as he was checking the system after replacing the pump.
He did a fabulous job. Both customers were super happy with him, the latter one being really impressed at how careful Malaki was to clean everything off on the water pump mating surfaces and to torque the new water pump down to factory spec, instead of just tightening the bolts.
It’s nice to have Malaki getting the reinforcement from customers on how much they appreciate really high-quality work. That customer said he’d be using us in the future and was super impressed.
Cool.
As for my part, I did a battery job for a college student named Cate who is on her last year of nursing school. 2015 Honda Civic. So that was easy. Then I did a starter on a 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe, which, aside from the massive amount of oil that was everywhere and made the job a good bit slower and more annoying, went fine.
So… good work day. I could have done more, but I… didn’t want to, and nothing else was promised for today, so I took the rest of the day off, and Malaki did as well, having previously arranged to be at the doctor with his fiance for the baby checkup and then having a birthday party for one of their other kids.
Cool cool.
After that, I headed home, heading over to my hill sister Liz’s house to drop off some mail for my hill brother in law Steve. I ended up staying there for a while and then driving a ways up in Missouri to help out with some challenges that they were facing.
Life’s been hard lately, for a lot of us.
Well, folks. It’s gonna be a super busy work day tomorrow. I’m not sure exactly how I’m going to run it. There’s some stuff Malaki could probably do on his own, but some stuff that he probably can’t, and we’ve got cars scheduled all over. So… there’s both stuff he can do and stuff he can’t do in each major area.
So… it’ll be interesting.
Anyway, I’m doing just fine today. It’s much easier to forget about my personal challenges when I am out trying to help others with theirs.
I am missing a connection I used to have but don’t have anymore. That’s hard.
Hope y’all had a meaningful day.
- I’m grateful to have the willingness to write what I’m grateful for when I just want to be done with this entry.
- I’m grateful to have the means to help out financially in ways that can lighten others’ burdens.
- I’m grateful to have a good young man working for me right now who wants to do good work.
- I’m grateful to have been able to be there for family today during tough times. That’s the most important thing.
- I’m grateful for the opportunities I have to help others reach their dreams and goals.

Love and hugs.
