2022-09-02 — Not Ready

Tired. Long day. Discouraged. Body hurts. So many injuries.

Malaki did really well today. Might have broken a record for the most one of my peeps has made in one day. He got two massive tips that equaled on their own about as much as he used to make in an entire day.

He’s making good progress. Can’t wait for him to get his tools and a different work vehicle. Now I need to figure out scheduling and whatnot while I’m gone.

I’m ready for the weekend. I actually remembered that it’s a holiday Monday, and believe it or not, I’m actually going to take the day off! 🙃

Haven’t taken a holiday off in a while.

As far as today went… I did one vehicle myself (a 2015 Toyota Tacoma that the gentleman had left with the window open during an Arkansas rain storm. Rained so hard that the cupholders in the middle of the cab had something like an inch of water in them).

The result was that the infotainment system shorted itself on, draining the battery down even with the vehicle off. So I charged up his battery, fired up the defroster, pulled the fuse, and managed to, I think, dry things out enough to get it to work properly.

Malaki did a no start (turned out to be a starter) on a 2007 Honda Accord 4 cyl, a no start on a 2004 Dodge Stratus (seized up AC compressor), a no start on a 2009 Mercedes (just a battery), and a no start on a… 2016 Acura TLX. AutoZone told him he had a bad alternator. No, just a bad battery. I really don’t understand what’s wrong with the AutoZone testers. They’re like $800+ dollar testers, but they get it wrong almost all the time, it seems.

Anyway, he replaced the battery in that one, and then went to the last one of the day, a 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan that the belt came off of. Malaki did a good job finding that the cause of the belt falling off was a bad crank pulley, the outer ring having separated from the inner. He also verified the cause of the oil leak (both valve covers). We only charged half a service call, at Malaki’s suggestion, as the lady was hard up for money.

I came home, got my trailer back from the repair place and dropped my other one off for a warranty repair.

Then I worked on my hill brother Jim’s car. He wanted the blower motor replaced. In Nissan Sentras, the blower motor is in… a whacky place compared to where just about everyone else puts them. You have to remove the gas and brake pedals, and some other stuff as well, in order to get it out.

After getting it out, though, I tested it, and… it worked.

Ugh.

So I spent the next 2 hours trying to figure out what was going on. I found a couple blown fuses, and everything worked after replacing them–until the fan was placed in the housing itself. As soon as I put it in the housing, it wouldn’t work anymore.

😶

Take it out and test it again, works just fine. Check power to the fan, perfect.

I finally just gave up and replaced the fan, and it worked just fine with the new one. I have no explanation of why it would work off the car and not on the car, but the new one would work on the car. Just… goofy.

Was hoping to get things better together for my mom. She comes back tomorrow.

(sorry, mom)

It’s almost 2. I’m tired and… (sigh)… rough day.

Good night, folks.

Love and hugs.
