2022-09-04 — Where to Live…

Hey, folks, blur of a day. Slept in longer than I have in a good, long while. Spent a good chunk of time cleaning up the mess I made of the driveway in my effort to clean out the garage.

I also fixed my work van that was damaged when my drive belt shredded and cut up part of the wiring harness. I spliced in a new cam sensor and fixed another connector that was shredded apart.

I had a long conversation with my nephew Thomas, and… I spent a long time working on figuring out where I want to move to.

I haven’t made much progress, though I did decide that Michigan gets far too cold for my taste. 🙃 I was looking at large parcels of land, and there was a beautiful tract with hundreds of acres that was in my budget, but… so cold in the very long winters.

So… Upper Michigan is out.

More looking to do.

Beautiful tract of land on the Olympic peninsula, but the property taxes are more than I want to take on. The politics aren’t so friendly to my libertarian leanings, and I’m not sure how well I’d do with all the rain. I do like my sunshine, though I also love my rain. But… that much rain? I don’t know.

Some things on the wish list include:

Within hour of decent airport
50+ acres
Year around river (not just a little creek, but a river… the kind that might be a foot or two deep but is like 40 feet wide with boulders and currents and little white ripples)
Hills on property (I love how Haven Hill here is laid out).
Border/dead end on national forest/national park land (so I can be relatively safe from it being developed in the future).
4 equalish seasons (not 6 months of winter, for example, followed by three short other seasons)
Not humid
Not ticks or chiggers
Mix of forest and field
Waterfall on property (that would be… the ultimate. 🙃)
Mountain view (jagged mountains, not these little forested bumps that we have out here that people call mountains.)
No temperature extremes (mid 90s as a general high in the summer (non-humid high), teens as a general low during the winter). But I’d still like a summer that’s hot enough that jumping into the river or a lake is a wonderful summer activity to cool off.
Within 30 minutes of good shopping centers.
Within 30 minutes of hospital
Within an hour of good medical professionals in many fields.
Within 30 minutes of decent population center (hundreds of thousands of people, for example)
Decent population diversity
Affordable
No highway noise
As little light pollution as possible.
No visible man-made structures from my property.
Tax friendly
Libertarian friendly

Anywhere that y’all can think of that fits my dream? 🙃

Love and hugs.
