2022-10-14 — A Special Breed of Ridiculous

It’s been a day. I’m… tired but still going (my nephew Austin and I have been up working on one dating app to rule them all (it’s amazing how deficient even the most-expensive dating apps are). So… we’re designing one that has absolutely everything.

I mean, with E-Harmony, for example, you can’t even sort by profiles that have pictures. So massive number of the profiles you scroll through don’t even have pictures. And… you’re forced to wade through them.

There are all these super famous dating apps, and every. single. one of them is missing really no-brainer-important features.

I just… don’t understand. Unless there’s like a personal moral justice component to it (“people shouldn’t take weight into account when choosing a partner, so I’m not going to let them exclude [skinny/fat/enter body shape here] when searching for a companion”).

Anyway, I’ve worked on the design for a dating app in the past, but Austin’s interested now as well, so what the heck, we’ll work on it together and get it done.

🙃

In the meantime, today has been pretty discouraging in a lot of ways.

  • I was set to drive to Tulsa to open a new bank account for my tree service. Except… nope, apparently, bankers who deal with businesses aren’t really very available, and the next available appointment with a banker was next week. So I drove all the way to Siloam Springs before I figured that out. I knew driving that direction before the bank opened was a risk, but good golly.
  • Then… on the way back, working with the customer service agent for ZenBusiness (the company I hired to get my business registered and taken care of with the state of Arkansas and with the IRS). I was just trying to figure out when I was going to be getting my EIN number, but she just wouldn’t… answer the question. I tried again and again, but she just wouldn’t answer my question. She’d just repeat the same thing she’d sent before. It took like four tries before she finally told me the answer. I don’t know if she just was embarrassed to give an answer that wasn’t really a nice one for me or what, but goodness… that was patience testing.
  • Then… T-Mobile didn’t have a phone to exchange mine with. The battery-drain issues I was having qualified for a new phone, but the Bentonville store said they didn’t have a replacement for me, so… I left empty handed. (I eventually was able to get it replaced at another store, only to find out that the Bentonville store did have phones but apparently didn’t want to swap them, so they told me they didn’t? (the other store looked up their inventory and said they had 5 phones left they could have swapped it with).
  • I worked on my Genie lift, pulling out the swing motor brake assembly (and possibly causing more problems by doing that than I fixed, as I don’t know how it all works but took it apart anyway 😶)
  • In my efforts to figure out the needed parts for my Genie lift that I thought I got such a great deal on, I found that my lift isn’t what I was told it was. Nope. Not at all. It’s not a 2010 TZ-50. In fact, even though it has TZ50 painted quite convincingly on the top boom, it’s not a TZ50: It’s a TZM-50/30–the previous generation. And no, it’s not a 2010 TZM-50/30. No, it’s like a 1999 or 2000 ish. Yeah. That’s how I felt, too. Again. Screwed over by someone yet again. I don’t know what it is about me/about other people. Good gravy. Is no one honest these days? Why am I so trusting and so gullible all the time? Why do I just assume people are being truthful, straightforward, honest? It’s like it doesn’t even cross my mind that they might not be being truthful. (sigh) So what I thought was an excellent deal on this Genie lift turned out to be just a regular purchase of a piece of equipment, probably somewhere around it’s actual value, but i have to fix it still. I had thought that I’d gotten a good enough deal to hedge my bets. If the tree service didn’t work out so well, I could at least sell the Genie and cover the cost of everything I’d invested to this point. Nope. So that wasn’t fun to figure out. It’s been rather discouraging to try and even figure out where to get parts and what parts to get, but this? Ugh.
  • Then after several frustrating interactions with JustAnswer.com (the keep screwing things up right and left… I submit a request for a specific mechanic to answer my question. I even submit it directly to the mechanic on the mechanic’s profile… And what happens? A different mechanic takes on the question and then tells me they can’t and won’t answer it. So I try to cancel the question, so I can resubmit it to the mechanic I wanted to answer the question in the first place. But customer service doesn’t cancel the question: They tack it on to the end of the last question I asked my preferred mechanic. Except… that’s against the rules, he can’t answer two topics on the same “question.” So… he lets me know, and I’m like, wait, what? Why is this new question I asked now tacked onto the end of our last interaction?!?! So I get in touch with customer service yet again, and I ask to cancel the question again. What happens? I get an email letting me know that they’ve canceled my entire account!!! I swear you can’t make this stuff up. I’m just dumbfounded by all this. blunder after blunder after blunder, like 5 different workers from the same business, and now my account has been canceled. It’s… ludicrous.
  • Then I try and get a hold of the company to sort through the ridiculousness, and what happens? I wait on hold, and they hang up. I wait on hold again, and they hang up. I try a third time (if I’m remembering right, and they hang up–each time without ever letting me actually talk to someone).
  • Today has been a special breed of ridiculous.

It’s been… a trip today. So much junk piling up. It’s… frustrating/discouraging/etc.

On more positive notes…

  • I got Jose paid (my friend the dump truck driver who brought rock to the property)
  • I got my replacement phone eventually.
  • I only did one quick car job, and the second one gratefully was willing to postpone until tomorrow, so that was nice. I appreciated that.
  • It was cool plotting and scheming with Austin about creating a new dating app–the one app to rule them all. We’ve been making a grid that shows all the features the top several dating apps offer, what they’re lacking in comparison to one another, and what they’re lacking in comparison to some of the best dating app ideas we can come up with as well.
  • Had a cool conversation with Austin about why I’m vegan.
  • Ate a bit more today. 🙃 I’m not the skinniest I’ve been (I’m 170ish right now, so it’s not bad, but… it’s pretty darn skinny. At least, that’s how it looks to me when I look in the mirror. I’m probably technically right about right, but I’m used to being a little more filled out, both generally as well as muscularly.

So… there you go. Another late night. It’s after 1:30. So much going on. Scrambling around trying to get stuff figured out, taken care of, and done.

Lots and lots and lots to do.

Love and hugs. 😊
