2023-02-27 — Big O Trash

It was another busy Monday. 🙂

As with all the other days these last few weeks. Gratefully, though, I got done working a lot faster than some of the other days these last few weeks.

Five cars today…

First car was a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee that some other mechanic had started to take apart but then disappeared and didn’t come back to help. He left the engine significantly disassembled, and the owner lady just wanted it all put back together. So I started putting stuff back together, but then I noticed that there was a nut that had fallen down one of the injector holes, and after seeing that, and noticing that he had unbolted the intake manifold as well, I manually cranked the engine over to make sure that it wasn’t locked up from him possibly having dropped something down the intake holes, and as I was turning the engine, I heard a clinking sound.

😬

I don’t know what caused the sound, but it looks to me like there’s either something that has been dropped inside, or maybe a valve spring has broken or something. At that point, I recommended that she take it to Miguel’s shop, but after talking to Miguel, he really wasn’t keen on it.

🙃

It’s not very fun coming in after someone, especially when they’ve just sort of torn stuff apart and you don’t necessarily know everything that they’ve done.

Anyway, that was the first car. The second car was a 2013 Hyundai Genesis coupe that was making a knocking noise. I didn’t even need to turn it on. I pulled the dipstick, saw metal shavings all over the dipstick, and I knew right off the bat that it was another Hyundai with a blown motor because of manufacturing defects.

Ridiculously, even though this car was of the same year and same motor of others that qualified for a free engine because of a class action lawsuit against the company, because this was a more obscure model, it didn’t apply.

So stupid. Same engine, just a much less purchased vehicle, so it didn’t manage to make it into the lawsuit.

Poor guy.

Third car was a 2000 Chevy Tahoe that had a window that was stuck down. So I replaced the motor and regulator assembly on the passenger front window. Before I even got started, though, I checked to make sure that was the issue, and two other windows also had issues. The back passenger window had a busted regulator. The back driver window had a bad motor, so it went down, but it wouldn’t go back up. The same problem on the passenger front window was why I was there. So I went ahead and replaced the regulator motor assembly on the passenger front window, and then with a good bit of coaxing managed to get the driver’s rear window back up. He knew the other windows were bad, but he wasn’t worried too much about fixing those. He just wanted to make sure both front windows were working so he could roll the windows down since the vehicle didn’t have functional AC.

Fourth car of the day was another Jeep Grand Cherokee. This one a 2007. This was the lady who called a week ago or so because Big o tires had quoted a massive amount of money and basically told her that she needed a new engine. They told her it was going to take a dozen hours of diagnostic time just to figure out what the oil leaks were.

So tired of dishonest mechanics. When I hear of how much other mechanics charge and how dishonest they are, I’m sort of flabbergasted when I get crap for my prices.

Anyway, just like the people from the other night, big o tires screwed them over. Did she have oil leaks? Yeah, for sure. Maybe three or four of them. Would it take a dozen hours just to diagnose them? Heck no. I was there for about 20 minutes. The customer even pointed that out as we were chatting.

Ugh. Stupid shops.

The last car of the day was a 2013 Ford edge that he said needed brakes all the way around and an oil pressure sensor. He was right about the oil pressure sensor, but it didn’t need brakes at all. And the sound he heard when it was clunking from stop to stop was a bad passenger front strut.

So I got home at a relatively decent hour, which was nice. I don’t actually remember what I did once I got home, but there you go. 🙃

Love and hugs. 😊
