2023-09-05 — Careful What You Wish For

Another work day today. Four cars this time. I’ve been trying to take it easier with my injuries and whatnot.

Six total billable hours. Obviously, I haven’t been reaching any of the financial goals lately. πŸ™ƒ

My poor body is a mess. πŸ˜• I guess I always used to say that I wanted to really understand what it was like to be other people and to struggle with the things that they struggle with, and… Well… frequent injuries and chronic pain is one of those things.

Be careful what you wish for? πŸ˜…

Anyway, the first car of the day was a 2008 Chevrolet Malibu that needed a new battery. No big deal. Easy peasy replacement.

One down.

Car number 2 was a 2009 Mercury Grand Marquis. That one has been on my schedule to do for a long time now. He needed spark plugs, and he needed his brake lights fixed. He also had a couple of other problems that he wanted me to look at, but I didn’t have time.

I got the spark plugs all replaced, and I was able to diagnose the issue with his brake lights as being a bad brake switch, so I drove to the parts store, picked up that part, installed it, and things were good to go with that one.

Car number three actually wasn’t a car that I needed to go fix, it was just one that I needed to go back and pick up the last payment that they owed me. It was that one from a long time ago where they had like a $200 limit that they never told me about, and I did something like $600 worth of work.

Gratefully, they were one of the few people who actually paid me what they owed me. Most people who don’t pay right away, don’t ever end up paying.

The last car was a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado that he thought had an alternator issue. It was either that or potentially the parasitic draw. I went out to it, and the alternator was doing fine, and there was no parasitic draw large enough to be of concern. There was a tiny one, but nothing that would drain a battery down overnight. I did find, however, that his battery cable connection was stripped out. Perhaps that was the issue? Not getting a good enough connection while running to recharge the battery?

Honestly, I’m not sure, as there was no evidence of anything that was wrong. So I replaced the bad connection at the battery, and we called it good.

After that, I went home, and I’m sure I worked on cleaning up and organizing things and vegged out a little bit.

Lift the world.
