Happy thankful month, day 2. π
It’s been a good day today, not quite as enjoyable as yesterday because most of the day was spent helping Cory get his car better prepared for the drive back instead of just in great conversation all day, but it was still a good day.
We chatted a bit in the morning over breakfast, and then we went out and got a driver’s CV axle pulled out, an interior door panel and handle assembly removed, and the windshield wiper motor removed.
Cory did a large majority of the work. I did little things here and there and was more in charge of research and parts ordering and whatnot.
We ordered parts and drove into town, grabbing lunch at Subway, stopping off at Ace hardware to see if they had an oil additive for Cory, and then stopping over at the AutoZone to grab the parts that they had in stock while we waited for the others to be transferred from other stores.
We went back to the Pea Ridge national military park to eat our lunch before we went into the visitor center to poke around and watch the history video and what not.
Good stuff.
After getting back from lunch at the military park, We put in the new CV axle, and we got the oil changed, which was a little bit more of an ordeal than one might expect because of the… less effective placement of the oil filter.
Then we wandered around the lower pasture for a little while while we waited for the rest of the parts to be delivered to us. The parts finally arrived somewhere around 5: 00–not too long before sundown.
So we installed the wiper motor, again Cory doing most of the work with me just as a helper.
I also got sidetracked a little bit because I could smell sewage smell, and I knew that the septic tank was bubbling over because the filter was thoroughly clogged, So I grabbed a rubber glove and something to bail with, and I pulled the lid off and bailed out the septic tank until I could get down to the filter without having to fill my rubber glove with… the loveliness inside the septic tank. After bailing enough to get down to the filter, I pulled out the filter and spent a good while cleaning it out, but it’s all set now, the filter is now doing its job again, the tank isn’t overflowing anymore, and we are good to go.
Went back and started helping Cory with the suburban again. It went a little bit sideways, but Cory was able to figure it out, so we got that taken care of, and then he got the door handle placed and the door panel put back on.
It’s a lot nicer doing car work when I don’t have deadlines and waiting customers and other pressures. π
I also noticed that a little rubber plug that was clamped on to the end of an unused outlet pipe on the radiator was severely dry rotted and cracked in about ready to blow.
It very well could have blown on his long drive back to Utah, which would have left him stranded who knows where.
Gratefully, I had the exact rubber stopper he needed because I keep them when I do radiator jobs that have those little rubber stoppers come with them but aren’t necessary for that particular application. So I grabbed one of those little rubber stoppers from my bag of rubber stoppers, and we clamped it on, and he’s good to go.

He’ll be heading out tomorrow morning.
π
Wish he could stay a lot longer. Wish we didn’t live so far away from each other.
But it is what it is… for now.
After getting everything put together with his suburban, I got all of my tools put away, getting the last of the tools out of my road trip van and back and my other work van.
Then we ate some dinner, and we chatted, mostly gospel conversations for the rest of the night. π
He’s on the extra mattress in my room right now going to bed, and I’m here in the Celestial Room having my little conversation with the Big Guy and writing this post for posterity…
Not that I have any.
π
Really sad reminder after an otherwise pretty decent day.
Moving on…
I’m grateful to have been able to have Cory here. He leaves in the morning. I’m grateful to have remembered to order the ignition switch for my road trip van. I’m grateful to have had such an absolutely beautiful weather day today. I think it was 62Β° as a high, sunny, gentle breeze, just… Absolutely gorgeous.
I would love to have the general high bee between 60 and 70Β° for like 6 months out of the year, and maybe as high as 85 in the summertime, provided there’s a nice little water hole to jump in and swim in nearby, and then a few months of cold temperatures with snow. But I would absolutely love a good 60 to 70Β° most of the year-round. π
Anyway, grateful for a super beautiful day.
Love and hugs.
Lift the world.
