2024-02-02 — Just Another Work Day

I have zero memory of February first…

😅

(basically because I’m writing this on February 11th, and it’s just been too long. I’ve been so behind in my journal entries lately…)

So… On to the second!

Today was a full work day–5 cars.

The first car was in Pea Ridge, close to home, and had the potential to be a black hole to start the day, as it was a crank no start.

Gratefully, upon arriving there, my customer let me know that she had found some chewed wires under the hood . Apparently, a squirrel that she has been feeding decided to add to its nutritional menu. 🙃

So before doing anything else, I spent time splicing the wire that had been chewed in half , stripping back the wire, connecting a butt connector with heat shrink, and wrapping it up with electrical tape.

She fired right up.  🥳

That one was a 2019 Nissan Versa.

The next car was a 2014 Chevrolet Captiva with the battery light on. The lady was traveling from out of state and had a long drive home and was a bit concerned about it. When I got there and couldn’t reproduce the problem, I just recommended that she get herself a multimeter and keep an eye on it, as I couldn’t prove anything was wrong whatsoever and didn’t want to replace anything on nothing but a guess.

She was good with that, so I headed on down the road to the next one.

Car number three was a 1999 Ford Taurus that the gentleman had wanted me to install a starter on. He didn’t want any diagnostics, but I decided to spend a minute or so just doing a quick one, and I’m glad I did, because the issue was not a starter. The engine was cranking over just fine, it just wasn’t starting.

I did a bunch of testing, and I gave it a tentative diagnosis that was a pretty unhappy one, and I recommended the he got a second opinion because I wasn’t confident in the diagnosis, but at least I saved him several hundred dollars by not doing what he asked me to do in putting the starter in without doing any diagnostics.

The next car was a 2010 Toyota Highlander that wouldn’t start and just needed a battery. Easy peasy. 🙂

Car number five, the last car of the day was a 2005 Chevy Malibu. The car didn’t have Almost any oil in it and was making a bit of a top-end tick and also what sounded like a bottom end knock. 😬

Not so great. 😬

More unhappy news to give. 😕

I think I did some JustAnswer stuff in the evening and called it a day.

Lift the world.
