2024-02-23 (Friday) — Floppy Gasket

(writing on the 27th)

Good long day of work today. 5 cars. Just shy of 10 billable hours that went… mostly well. 😅

The first car of the day was going to a 2011 Ford Fusion that the gentleman had struggled to replace the valve cover gaskets on.

When I got there, I found that he had knocked a whole bunch of crap into his head, so I spent a good while cleaning that out before working at helping him get the valve cover back on. I ended up being there a little over 2 hours before all was said and done.

Car number two was a 2004 Honda pilot that the gentleman had tried to replace the belt tensioner on but couldn’t figure out how. So I went over there and got him all squared away. That job was in Bentonville, the fusion in centerton.

The third car of the day was a 2003 Chevrolet S10 pickup truck. I went out to it, and I found that It needed new spark plug wires.

That was quite the ordeal. You have to fish the plug wires through this little tiny opening down from the front, through the side of the engine.

That was a beast, and a bit frustrating at times, but eventually, I conquered. 🏋️

I think that job ended up taking something like 3 hours.

The next job was going out to a 1997 Toyota Camry that had the battery drained down a bit. Turned out to have a bad alternator, so I drove over to the AutoZone in Lowell, grabbed an alternator, and got them squared away, leaving the key for them in the rear bumper.

That job was in South Rogers.

The last job of the night was way down in Fayetteville, and was going out to a box truck that wouldn’t start that they thought might have a bad starter. It was acting super goofy when I got there, all sorts of weird electrical issues that matched some common, more serious, problems with those trucks, but gratefully, it turned out to just be a battery.

🥳

It was nice to have that one turn out to not need anything super major.

I did, however, learn that I screwed up on the job that I was helping the gentleman with the Ford Fusion. He sent me a text saying that we hadn’t noticed that as we were putting the valve cover back on, the gasket had fallen out.

I’m pretty sure it hadn’t fallen out on my side, but I didn’t go around the car where he was to see if it had fallen out on his side.

Oops. 😬

I haven’t had a comeback job in a long long long time. But I definitely screwed that one up. 😬 I’ll end up buying another gasket and going back out free of charge.

Win some, lose some, I haven’t had to go back, as I mentioned, in a long time. So… That’s something. 🙂

Still haven’t been doing JustAnswer work. I’ll hopefully get back to that next week. 😅

After getting home, I just vegged out for a bit, and went to bed.

Lift the world.
