2024-02-24 (Saturday) — Kicked Trash

Jim and I kicked trash today. πŸ’ͺ😎

We got so much accomplished. πŸ₯³

We went down to Hidden Springs Park (the spring house pond) and tried again to measure the flow of the water out of the pond in order to know what size ramp pump to build.

At first, I tried to put down a big, industrial-sized/strength garbage bag, and that helped to damn up the water, but it didn’t help give me away of measuring the output.

I think it was Jim who had the idea to measure the output after the dam. We have some 4-in PVC pipe down there, and I grabbed one of the pipes, laid it in the creek bed, damned up the water just a little bit on each side, forcing all of the water to go through the pipe, and we were able to measure 5 gallons a minute.

I feel like I already wrote about this. πŸ™ƒ

After that, we went up to the upper fields. Jim was going to till the two farm fields, But as we were talking about stuff, he mentioned wanting to prune the huge oak tree by the water tower building. So as he started getting ready to do the tilling, I grabbed my A-frame ladder, set it up, and started pruning. I didn’t get very far, before Jim came over with the tractor, and I jumped in the bucket, and he just raised me up. πŸ˜…

For the next probably hour or hour, or so, he drove around the huge oak from place to place as I pruned the branches.

They were so low that they were in the way of driving under them, so it was good to finally get those taken care of.

After that, while he was tilling the fields, I went over to the pond and chopped down probably 25 trees. Mike wanted all the cedars removed, and in order to feel the pond, we needed to cut down all the trees off of the dam side of the pond.

I didn’t really do any of the other trees today, but I did cut down all the gazillions of cedars.

Jim noticed what I was doing, so he came over with the tractor with the forks on the front and moved the cedars into a burn pile.

From there, we did some burning. We burned a bunch of leaves. We started one of the planting fields on fire, which, intern, caught a handful of rotting trees on fire.

That was actually expected, as I could see the trees were rotten when we started the fire. It was actually super cool to see all of these hollow trees lighting up like chimneys– especially after it got dark, the glow looking super cool.

😍

Why is fire so mesmerizing? Love it. πŸ™ƒ

At least when it’s under control. πŸ˜…

In the middle of all that, we spent some time burning The weeds out of the spot next to the big barn. Then Jim started dumping gravel down, and we now have the beginnings of a parking pad for the various trailers on the property.

Instead of having them strewn all about and in the way, there is now a place for them. πŸ₯³

From there, we spent a good little bit of time cleaning up around the tool shed next to the carriage barn.

We got so much done! It’s so nice to start a day working and accomplish more than you expected. Doesn’t happen very often, so I will relish it this time around. 😁

And that was the day. It’s nice to be able to help out here on the property and to see things getting done that my hill family has been wanting to get done.

πŸ₯³

Lift the world.
