(written on April 15th)
Oddly, it was another slow day. Two in a row.
The first car of the day Was it 2019 Toyota Highlander in Springdale that had a flat tire. They had asked me to change the tire and put their spare on, but I was able to find the screw hole and just plug it for them. I think they immediately left to go replace the tire anyway.
Car number two is a 2006 Hyundai Elantra in Rogers that he said the car had died on. I went out there and found that his belt had broken off, so the alternator wasn’t charging, so it had died. Unfortunately for him, after I changed the belt, I noticed that the water pump was leaking. π¬
It’s going to need a new timing system, which is probably going to cost him more than a paid for the car. π
Card number 3 was another Hyundai, a 2013 Hyundai sonata that had a check engine light. Unfortunately for her, they had that awful Hyundai issue–blown motor. π
It only had like 85,000 mi on it, but it was past the 10-year warranty period. π
After card number 3, I headed down to Springdale to work on the old Ford van that I bought from that lady. Grately, after a good bit of work, I was able to get the cleaned out tank with a new pump in it installed, new gas put in, and all started up.

That was pretty exciting!
And then… Rodent troubles. π
You know how I had a customer last week, or maybe a couple weeks ago, who had a fuel line that had been chewed through by a squirrel?
My turn. π
I looked underneath the van before turning it off, and I saw fuel squirting out. I crawled underneath, and I saw that fuel was squirting out of the main fuel line right before it goes into the fuel filter. Not only was it squirting out, but it was squirting out right onto the heat shield for the catalytic converter– the hottest part of the whole vehicle. π
Can we say fire hazard?
So I shut the van off, took a look at the line that I was going to need, and then headed off to my last job of the day.
The last car of the day was out by the lake east of Rogers. It actually wasn’t a car: It was a side by side. Normally I don’t work on side by sides, but I made an exception for him because all he needed was the bolt removed. So I went out there, and I was able to get some parts off, but one of the parts that he was trying to get off I couldn’t get off. Fortunately, I realized that bolt didn’t need to come off, so we left it on, and I found some other damage that needed to be repaired, so I showed him what was damaged, so he could get the parts ordered.
Anyway, that was the day. Another slow day, but again, in some ways nice because it gave me the ability to get that tank and pump installed into my new van. That meant I didn’t need to make an extra trip on a “day off.”
