2024-04-12 — Back to Work, Poison Ivy Notwithstanding

Super busy work day today. First day back to work after the massive poison ivy outbreak. It is a brutal case. A bit more manageable now. Still not fun, but not anywhere near as uncomfortable as it could have been. 🥳

With that awful case of poison ivy, I stayed home Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday and was pretty much useless to the world. I veged out for most of 3 days doing very little that was productive. 😕

Anyway, super busy day. 7 cars, but amazingly, only 9 billable hours between the seven cars.

The first job of the day was going to a 2018 Honda pilot in Bentonville that just needed a new battery. At first, it looked like maybe the battery might still be good, so I spent a good little while charging everything back up to properly test it. I was a little concerned because the battery cable was super loose, so I didn’t want to have them buy a brand new battery if all it was wrong was that the connection was loose, and wasn’t allowing the charge to fully get to the battery. I figured it was a long shot, but it was something that needed to be done.

In the end, I ended up putting a battery in it.

Car number two, also in Bentonville was a 2000 Ford explorer. She wanted me to replace the ECU. She had already bought one that was pre-programmed, so I went ahead and installed it for her. Easy peasy.

I headed to Springdale for car number 3, a 2012 Ford Taurus that gratefully, just needed a battery. Easy peasy number 2. 😁🥳

The fourth car of the day was going to a 2015 Ford F-150 in Fayetteville that he wanted me to put a starter in. So I headed over with the starter and installed it, and gratefully, his diagnosis was correct. I told him that since I wasn’t doing the diagnosis, I couldn’t warranty the job, but he was pretty confident, and he was right.

There was a little bit of a hiccup to the job, because he had just finished bathing his dog, and the truck was dead in the puddle of water that was half on the concrete and half on the dirt and grass.

Fortunately, he had some wood boards that we threw down in the puddles, and then a huge piece of cardboard that we threw on top of the wood boards, so though I got damp still, I didn’t get soaking wet.

🥳

Car number five was going to a 2002 Ford e150 van. I remember doing a job for him years ago, I think back when maybe Chase was working for me? I don’t remember for sure. It’s been a while. Anyway, he was having starting issues, and I found that he had a bad alternator. Greatly, I had ordered alternators before I went over, and it was easy enough to figure out which alternator of the two I bought that he needed, so we were good to go. I installed the alternator, and headed off to vehicle number 6.

Job number six was in Springdale, and was a 2000s Chevrolet Silverado That would start and then die. After a bit of testing, I was able to verify that the pump was not putting out proper pressure. So looks like either a fuel filter, which is very unlikely, or a fuel pump. I gave him confidence that he could do the work himself, as he lives on a farm in his worked on tractors and whatnot, so he’s definitely somebody who could figure things out.

If you decide he doesn’t want to do it, then I can do it for him.

The last job of the day, vehicle number 7 was in Rogers and was going to a 2009 Chevrolet traverse that wouldn’t start. They thought it might be the ignition switch, but when I went out there, after doing a bunch of testing, I found that the shifter wasn’t working properly. It was either going to be an issue with the shift assembly itself or the shift cable, but I wasn’t sure which. I was manually able to put the vehicle in park and then get it started for him, and then get it put over into drive so that he could at least drive home. The traverse had been stuck at the apartment complex and they were at the point where they were threatening to tow it away. So I was able to get him home, so that was good. I’ll head back probably on Monday to work on it further.

Anyway, that was the day. It was well after dark by the time I got done and got home.

I haven’t done any just answer work in a while. Need to do that. 😅

Lift the world.
