2024-10-20 (Sunday) — Waterton, Reprise

(written on the 27th from notes taken previously)

We woke up relatively early. Church wasn’t going to start until 10, so I did my thing (YouTube, news, politics, sports, etc) until my mom got ready for church, and then i just continued doing the same all the way until she finished the church meetings.

I think maybe I watched some LDS-related stuff on YouTube… a little bit.

We went to Lundbreck Falls after that, having seen it on a sign from the highway. I pulled a u-ey, and went and enjoyed the falls area.

I didn’t check the depth, but it looked like there might have been a fabulous place to cliff jump (a viewing platform going out far enough to jump into the pool below the waterfall).

A more healthy spine might have yielded a test of the waters and a jump. 🙃

Took some pictures, used the bathroom, threw away since trash/litter, and then we headed east and then South toward Waterton National Park.

It was cool coming from the north this time, as last time we’d come from the east.

Now I know what the mountains look like going north. 🙂

We skipped going into the national park itself, instead choosing to go right back to where we spent time last year enjoying the mountains and river and beautiful scenery, going back to the same place my heart fell in love with last October.

I still love that place.

And now I have so much more I love to add to it. 😊

There was more water this year, so we built a little rock path across a water channel, so my mom could cross without getting wet. Then she did some rock hounding while I looked for animal tracks in the same area I saw the bear tracks in last year and took more pictures.

No bears this year, but there were definitely deer, maybe wolf or coyote, and I’m guessing moose (enormous coven hoof prints–enormous).

I didn’t want to leave.

Leaving meant we were leaving Canada, once again leaving my heart somewhere only to go to a place my heart… is not.

😞

But that will be changing soon. I’m selling my stuff, and I’m moving–to somewhere that makes my heart sing.

So I was pretty melancholic.

I did finally manage to tear myself away, after we’d eaten lunch at a different spot on the same river with the same beautiful mountain and river views.

From there, we headed to Cardston, taking some pictures of the temple again like last year. We waited around on the south end of Cardston for the sunset to do its thing, hoping for a brightly colored vista, but it wasn’t to be. There were super cool cloud formations but not much in the way of color.

We got to the border crossing after dark, again, though a bit earlier than last year. It was also a much simpler experience this year. Perhaps our vehicle made us stick out a little less this year than last. 😅

We made it back to the States with no issues, driving from the border all the way to Conrad Rest Area, a rest area that actually lets you stay over night. 🙏

And that was the day.

I miss Canada. 😢

Lift the world.
