2025-01-26 (Monday) — Back to Brakes

(written on the 28th)

Sunday started out like the rest of the week, up late, going to the gym, etc.

But then I headed over to the hill to help Stevie with the brakes on his truck. He had paid for a shop to do the rear, but he wanted to save some money and do the front himself, so I told him that he could borrow my tools, and I would walk him through how to do the job.

Helping him turned out to be a much bigger ordeal than I had thought. He had said that he needed pads and rotors, but I totally spaced the fact that he had an older truck, and that doing the rotors in the front meant removing the old style wheel bearings and bearing seals and whatnot, making the job three times as complicated and three times as long.

That meant that Stevie had to go to the store to buy bearings and seals, as it doesn’t make sense to do all that work and not replace the bearings.

So he went out and got the bearings, and then after pulling everything apart on the passenger front, we realized that they had given him the wrong brake pads.

🙄

So lovely.

I’m sooooo glad I’m not fixing cars anymore. It boggles my mind how I used to fix cars every day at all, let alone in the awful cold.

Speaking of child, it started to sleet a little bit, and the temperature dropped pretty significantly, so we were out working in the cold, and later, the dark.

I would walk him through how to do a particular part of the job, and then I would stop to reply to JustAnswer conversations.

I was there for about 6 hours, spending maybe 5 of those hours helping Stevie.

The other time I spent there was going and getting my skid steer from neighbor Dan and picking up some mail from Liz, catching up a little bit with what’s been going on for her.

From there, it was back to Rogers. I stocked up on food at the Neighborhood Market and then headed to Planet Fitness to sleep to drown myself in TV and movies and YouTube and whatnot before crashing for the night.

Lift the world.
