2025-03-08 (Saturday) — Heavy-Duty Hill Days

(written on the 10th)

It was a long, but very productive day on Haven Hill.

Morning started out with me going to get the tractor out of the lower field, because Jim wanted to use it to pull the trailer with, so we could load up all the branches and whatnot that we had cut the last couple weeks prior.

So I went down and grabbed that, but then after realizing that he wanted to use the tractor to pull the trailer for issues with terrain, or something like that, couple that with the fact that he was crazy busy and not going to be able to be with the rest of us to getting started to, I just help drop my on track and down there, meeting Stevie and Zach.

For the next two and a half hours, or so, zach, stevie, Jim a good bit later, and i, hauled branches from the lower Fields down by the gate up to the upper pond.

We stopped somewhere around noon or 12:30, and then I think I spent a little while doing just answer work before starting to burn the field next to Liz’s house. Burning that field was on Jim’s want list, and I always love burning stuff. πŸ™ƒ

So I started by lighting the fence line on fire. It’s been such an out of control mess for so long that it’s been a seemingly massive undertaking that everyone has wanted done, but has just been so huge.

So I started by lighting the corner on fire that’s usually just an absolutely massive ball of brambles, including lots of poison ivy.

It’s the same huge section that I spent a very long time cutting down and hauling away last year, except this part is right on the fence.

So I let that on fire, right next to the telephone pole/power line, getting all of the burnables far enough away from the power line so is not to risk catching the power line / telephone pole on fire.

Jim showed up not too long later, and I started setting the rest of the field on fire.

We stayed burning until the sun had gone down, and it was basically dark. We got that whole field fairly decently burned. Some spots didn’t burn through as well because the wind wasn’t very helpful for a good chunk of it, so I had to keep lighting it to try and get it to burn.

During the burning process, we made massive progress on cleaning up that fence line. Burned a lot. I also cut up a lot with my chainsaw. There’s still plenty more to do, but it’s a massive difference over what it used to be. πŸŽ‰

After that, I took Stephanie up on letting me use their shower and feeding me. πŸ™ƒ

I hate accepting other people’s generosity. I feel like if I have the capability of taking care of myself, then I should–especially when what’s offered is a nice to have, like dinner and a shower. I had my own food already. And I’ve got a shower at the gym or the creek, so no biggie there. So it’s just… Hard for me, but I actually, to Stephanie’s shock πŸ™ƒ, took her up on her kind offer. 😊

After getting cleaned up and eating dinner, Jim and I watched the BYU-Utah basketball game before I headed back to Rover for the night.

Gratitude:

  • I’m grateful we were able to make such good progress on the hill today. Things are getting done that I’ve wanted to get done for a long time. Funny that they’re happening now when I don’t really live on the hill anymore. πŸ™ƒ
  • I’m grateful to be able to help my Hill family make the progress that we are making.
  • I continue to be grateful for the flexibility I have with my work.
  • I’m grateful for the level of health that I still do have, that I can go around and help on the property like I have been lately.
  • I’m grateful that it’s been pretty nice weather lately. Not too hot, not too cold. Going to be heating up here in a few days, I think up to 80, but then it’ll cool back down a little bit. I’m hoping for a long spring. 🀞

Success:

  • It was definitely a success for me to be willing to accept Stephanie’s offer today.

Improvement:

  • I think I just need to keep focusing on the language thing until I can get a handle on it.

Love and hugs.

Lift the world.
