2025-05-30 (Friday) — SBS Shingles or Standing Seam?

(written on the 31st)

Woke up a bit later, with Hans already up and working on the backhoe.

I did some morning routine stuff and then spent most of the day doing research into roofing stuff–trying to learn the ins and outs, pros and cons of the shingles vs. standing seam.

Take questions on just answer, but it wasn’t really realistic. There was just too much digging around doing research and watching videos at the same time so I eventually mostly gave up. I think I only answered two questions the entire day. 🙃

I did get a lot of stuff written down in the Google sheet, though. Hopefully, it’ll be helpful. 😊

Went to the gun range with Hans for a little bit of less-stressful time. 🙂

Discovered on the drive back that his alternator wasn’t charging, so we did a quick test, and found no output from the alternator, Hans ordered one.

When Heather got home from work, we spent some time working on the River’s hooves. My job was to feed both horses almonds, in order to distract River from the work that Heather needed to do on his hooves, and to keep Fiona from getting jealous. 😆

From there, Heather and I headed up to Rapid City, leaving Hans to work on the house, well we talked about house building stuff, picked up an alternator from O’Reilly’s, picked up a cooling system pressure switch from the other O’Reilly’s, and grabbed dinner at a local Tex-Mex restaurant. I think it was called On the Border, or something like that.

Talked more building stuff on the way home and then listen to part of a Richard G. Scott BYU Speech on the way home.

Then we all talked more about house-building stuff once home–until after midnight 🙃, after which I proceeded to look for real estate on Zillow. 😅

Gratitude:

  • I’m grateful I have the flexibility in my life to be able to try and help here in South dakota.
  • I’m grateful to have been able to see the charging issue with the truck.
  • I’m grateful they have two cars, making it easier to get parts.
  • I’m grateful to be given strength of the Lord and every moment of every day.
  • I’m grateful for the opportunity to start over every moment and to choose a new direction, knowing that the past is the past and what matters most is the direction I’m facing now.

Success:

  • In my less spiritual days these last few days, I’m grateful for my sister and for Corey who have been uplifting toward getting back to those more meaningful, soul-filing times

Improvement:

  • I want to focus my energies on eternal things more, and spend less time being concerned about mortal, temporal things that in the grand scheme of things just… don’t matter.

Thee lift me, and I’ll lift thee, and we’ll ascend together. ~ Quaker Proverb

Bring it on.
