2025-06-06 (Friday) — Info Gathering

(written on the 8th from notes taken previously)

Beautiful day today 😊

Had a good morning routine, and a wonderful chat with the Big Guy. 🥰

Spend some time cleaning up and cleaning out Rover, and then doing some online work.

One of the exteriors companies came out to look at the house and to give a bid for doing the roof, siding, and windows, etc.

He seems like a pretty nice guy, but it was pretty surprising how little he seemed to know about some pretty basic things. For example, he didn’t know that shingles also had a fire rating in addition to an impact rating.

😶

There were some other eyebrow-raising things as well that certainly weren’t confidence boosting. 😅 But we will at least get a bid, and the person who’s gathering the information isn’t going to be the person doing the installation, so… it might not matter in the long run.

8th and breakfast and started working on scripture memorizing a little bit. Had a chat with one of the local insurance companies about how they deal with insurance claims for hail damage, which was enlightening. Apparently, it takes a lot more damage to a metal roof to be considered worthy of being replaced by the insurance. There has to be a leak on the inside of the house to be considered for an insurance claim, whereas regular shingles only have to have the shingles themselves damaged.

🤷

Watched a bunch of roofing videos trying to learn more in order to be able to contribute meaningfully to the roofing conversations.

Helped Hans do a little bit of road grading in a low spot, taking a load of road base down and smoothing it out.

I called the EuroShield roofing people, did some research into DaVinci roofing, and talked to a geotechnical engineer about our strategy for the several-foot build up needed to put the garage at the level desired.

Change the oil in the tractor, spend some time chatting with my friend Cory, chatted again with my brother Jared about his van which had overheated immediately after getting an oil change from a Big O tires location that recommended four digits worth of repairs.

I think that’s been my experience, in general, with Big O Tires. You go in for an oil change, and they do a complimentary multi-point inspection on the vehicle, and then they give pretty much everybody four- to five-digit list of recommended repairs.

Spent a little while chatting about house stuff with Heather and Hans, eating dinner as well.

I’m spoiled. We’ve had fabulous dinners every night I’ve been here, I think. 😋

Spent some more time cleaning out Rover and then chatted a little bit with my brother Richard before crashing for the night.

I answered quite a number of questions today online, so that’s good. 🎉 Since I’m not driving around and spending tons of money on fuel, I’m actually catching up I think to what I spent during the first month and a half of this trip. 🎉

Gratitude:

  • I’m grateful to be making progress in my gospel memorization stuff.
  • I’m grateful to be able to contribute at least a little bit to the house stuff. I don’t really feel like I’ve done much at all in the two weeks that I’ve been here, sadly. I’d like to be able to just get going, but there’s so much more to figure out, so I can’t just get going, otherwise it’s ready, fire, aim.
  • I’m grateful to have had a wonderful conversation with Big Papi today. 🥰
  • I’m really grateful to be in the spiritual place that I am right now. I just feel so… good. 😊 Some days it’s taking a lot of work to maintain, but so far, I’ve been able to push off those things that could drag me down. 🙏😊
  • I’m grateful to have been able to get in touch with people who are willing to give useful information about insurance stuff, roofing stuff, and free information from a geotechnical engineer. 🙏
  • I’m grateful to have had a good question-answering day.

Success:

  • I’ve already said it, but I’ve been able to push off the things that are trying to drag me down. I just keep refocusing, trying to fill my ears and my heart and my mind with spiritually uplifting things. 😊

Improvement:

  • I… can’t think of anything for today. 🎉 It was a good day. I feel like maybe I can sustain this, with God’s help, of course. 😊

Love and hugs!

Lift the world.

Bring it on.
