2025-09-14 (Sunday) — On The Road Again

(written on the 15th)

Howdy hi, my lovelies. 😊

Woke up relatively sick this morning, so instead of getting dressed for church, I just threw on a long sleeve shirt and some clean sweatpants and hung out in the foyer during sacrament meeting, so as to not get anyone else sick.

Spent second hour mostly talking to the branch president about ideas I have for my current calling as the Just Serve coordinator. And then I spent the last half, or so, of second hour with the Branch clerk trying to get Branch directory stuff figured out. Something is up with the computer, so it’s ridiculously slow even though it’s got 32 gigs of RAM and a 1 TB SSD drive.

It’s so dog slow that there’s clearly something significantly wrong.

Chatted with the missionaries for a little while, as I’m going to collaborate with them a bit on what I’m doing for my calling.

Headed back home afterward, hung out there at the property for a good while, eating a bean smoothie and spending a fair chunk of time chatting with Heather before she left for a work trip.

Chatted with Hans for a bit after he got home from helping a branch member who’s in a care center up north a ways. With Heather gone and the weather for the next few days not really conducive to getting the basement wall sealing done, I figured I might jet off to Arkansas a bit early to visit family, try and get things in better order, and hopefully sell some stuff before heading out of the country for half a year in October. 😅

After chatting with Hans about it, he agreed that it was a good time to head out, so I threw a whole bunch of my stuff in Rover without organizing it, so it’s an absolute disaster, and then headed out. 🙃

I drove for about 6 1/2 hours, finally stopping for the night at the Grand Island eastbound rest area somewhere around 2:30 in the morning Central Time–grateful that the sign that the rest area allowed stays of up to 10 hours. 🙏

Gratitude to My Father:

  • I’m grateful I was finally able to make some meaningful progress toward serving in my calling.
  • I’m grateful for the multiple different people who were helpful to me in my calling today, both on the branch level and the stake level.
  • I’m grateful I was able to drive so far having already started relatively late in the day.
  • I’m grateful for the rest area.
  • I’m grateful for my headphones that allow me to listen to White noise when I’m on the side of a very busy highway with very loud trucks going by continually.
  • I’m grateful that I started feeling much better by the end of the day. Seemed as though I basically wasn’t really even sick anymore. It does feel like maybe it’s moving into my lungs, but still much better than having it all stuffed up in my head. 🙏

We. Celebrate. Successes!!! 🥳:

  • Often times I take a lot longer to make decisions, but today I made the decision to leave relatively quickly. Of course, the decision needed to be made very quickly, so it’s not amazing, but I still made it and didn’t really stress about it and just left without overthinking.

Reflections on Where I Can Improve:

  • Gosh… it was a really good day today, I think. Nothing comes quickly to mind, so… I’ll take it. 🙃

Thought of the Day:

No one has learned the meaning of living until he has surrendered his ego to the service of his fellow man.

~ Thomas S. Monson

Bring it on.
