2026-01-16 (Friday) — A Foulwind

(written on February 19th from notes taken previously).

Not much to report today. It was a bit of a wasted day today for me–my own choice. 😕

There was a tad bit of rain.

I stopped off to top up my groceries at the Fresh Choice market in Westport.

Then I headed over to Cape Foulwind, and upon arriving, recognized it as a place that Chase and I had stopped and explored a few years ago. Not really feeling the need to explore it again this trip, I continued on down the coast toward Tauranga Bay, the bay that surfer just north of Kaikoura said was the other best surfing break in the South Island.

It might just have been the stormy weather, but the break here today didn’t look anywhere near as good as the one on the east coast did the days I was over there.

Still, it was a beautiful view, so I parked and veged out for a good little while in a few different spots around the bay, availing myself of the bathroom at the north end of the bay to start with.

After veging out there for a while, I decided to head south yet again, this time stopping at a set of tiny twin bays–one named Constant Bay and the other Joyce Bay.

If it weren’t for the fact that I was just sort of stuck in a rut, I think, I would have been able to enjoy the place a little bit more, but I mostly just sat in my van and wasted my life away. 😕

I did chat a little bit with my sister Heather and with my brother Richard, and I was able to dispose of the contents of my pee bottle in the long drop. 🙃

I wandered the Constant Bay beach a bit, snapped some pictures (which is apparently more than I did at Tauranga Bay, as there aren’t any pictures at all of that bay in my photos folder on my phone 😶) and then once again headed south to my freedom camping destination for the night at Fox River car park.

I don’t remember if Chase and I stayed there overnight last trip, but I do remember that we explored the area a little bit, walking to the river and underneath the bridge, but I think that was about it?

I did the same tonight. 🙃

It was later in the day, so I didn’t really do any exploring beyond that, just went back to the car park, and antisocially stayed in my van veging out a bit, despite it being an absolutely jam-packed car park.

Lift the world.

Bring it on.
