(written on April 1st from notes)
Well, today I bit the bullet and finally wrote the journal entry for my Mount Earnslaw climb.
I’ve been absolutely dreading that journal entry because of how long it was going to take to write, not just in the writing of the words but also in the choosing of which pictures to include.
Boy did it live up to its billing: I spent all day writing that journal, alternating between journaling and veging and journaling and veging.
It doesn’t seem like it would be that labor intensive, but good golly goodness. 🤪
I left my van doors open most of the day, which meant a steady influx of sand flies, but I preferred the breeze and continually decreasing the breeding population over sitting in a stuffy van.
Certainly, the screens over the two sliding door windows are a godsend, but during the heat of the day, they don’t really allow for enough air circulation to stay comfortable inside.
Though I reduced the local population significantly, after hour upon hour of sending them to their maker, some of them did manage to draw blood and itch like the dickens.
I don’t know if it’s that I generally catch the bites so quickly that not much of their saliva is able to produce a super strong histamine reaction or if I’m actually getting used to the bites and not reacting as badly, but it seems like instead of the bite itch lasting for weeks like I think I remember from my trip 3 years ago, the bites seem to only be lasting for hours to days, depending on the location of the bite.
Anyway, not much to report today as I spent pretty much the entire day inside the van staring at my phone. 🙃
I think I did spend some time cleaning out my van… If I’m remembering right, I had a few different trash bags full of stuff as I tried to get a handle on the mess inside. 😅
Lift the world.
Bring it on.
