2026-04-02 (Thursday) — Moonshots

(written on the 3rd)

Another cool night last night. I think I got up for the last time around 9 ish?

Being in an area without any reception whatsoever made it easier to jump right into working on my journal catch-up efforts, which I worked on sitting inside my van until about 10:45.

At one point, I wandered over to the pavilion and did 10 push-ups and 10 sit-ups.

Such a small number as to be almost laughable, but it was better than no exercise. 😅

After driving away, I returned to my drive journaling, dictating as I drove until arriving at the Te Angiangi Marine Reserve and Blackhead Beach.

At the reserve, I sat in my van enjoying the scenery and continuing my journal catch-up efforts. I also enjoyed a walk up and down the beach a bit, texting a little bit with my sister Heather as I went.

I also took advantage of the public trash can to get rid of various bits of litter that I had picked up over the last handful of days from several different places.

Oh! The public bathrooms in that little community there were fantastic! Clean. Even had blue water! 🙃

🙏

All in all, I spent a little more than five hours there at the reserve, most of that time working on my journaling efforts, before hopping back in my van to continue my drive journaling on the way to Kairakau Beach, where I hoped to stay for the night.

Given that Kairakau Beach was out in the middle of nowhere, I figured there was a good chance that I might be the only camper van there.

Boy was I wrong!

I pulled into the place just a little before 7:00, and it was slammed. Perhaps dozens of campers, mostly RVs but some campervans, lined a long, narrow strip of grass on the ocean side of a short dead-end road right on the ocean.

Occasionally, there were spots that I could have fit my van in, but it would have crowded the people next to me, and I didn’t want to bother anyone.

I ended up choosing the very last little open spot before the turnaround, perhaps 2/3 of my vehicle in the grass and the other third on the dirt of the turnaround.

Hopefully, that’s acceptable. 😅

Sign in the turnaround says for day parking only, but there’s a note below it that says “except for campers,” or something like that.

🤞

Beautiful spot, though–especially with the full moon rising above the ocean. Makes for some good pictures both at dusk…

And after dark 😊

I love this country. 😊

I spent most, probably roughly five of the next… six hours? writing catch-up journal entries and now this one (today’s) 🥳.

It’s coming up on 1:00 a.m., and I’m almost fully caught up. I’ve got two more entries that need to be written and then pictures that needed to be added to those and a half a dozen, or so, more.

Almost there… again. 🙃

G’night, all. 🤍

Lift the world.

Bring it on.
