2020-09-10 — Bring It On (Reprise)

Hiya, folks! 🙂

Happy Thursday! Another good day on this end of the electrical connection. Today’s good day was of the more positive, upbeat, progress-making variety. It didn’t start out so hot. I slept in again, just exhausted, and I didn’t get most of my dailies done–at least not on time or in the typical fashion, but it was still a good day, and I got a lot of my dailies done in alternative fashion.

I’m not doing myself any favors again tonight, though, given that it’s almost 10:30, and I should have been in bed an hour ago 🙃, but I was trying to be there for a friend, and there’s nothing I’d rather have been doing with my time than that, so… I give myself a pass tonight. I’m still trying to cultivate the discipline to get up on time even after a late night. I’m not quite there yet. The power of the desire for sleep is great 😁.

Anyway, taking the day off today, I actually spent most of my day outside, I spent a good long while on the tractor working on the road. I didn’t have the box blade on it, so it took a lot longer to do things, and I didn’t make a lot of progress comparatively, but I made a decent amount. I got two stumps pulled out of the ground, one with the tractor and one with my truck. They’ve both been a bit of a nuisance, but only a tiny bit. Still, I’m glad to have them gone. I’ve added probably three more parking spaces worth of cleared land (note for my mother: don’t worry, mom. I have neither the cars nor the inclination to get enough cars to fill all the spaces. Just nice to have that area cleared. It’s a little more… open now. Makes more sense to me to have it landscaped as it now is.

So… yeah, I spent a ton of time on that. I spent a good bit of time working on the driveway, trying to add more material the current speed bumps, trying to create a new speed bump, trying to re-contour the upper drive way. It’s all pretty rudimentary without the use of the box blade, but it’s still progress.

I also got some good servicize in today running around gathering up branches from having trimmed the trees, and then from raking dirt. I’m pretty filthy now, too.

One of our big trees I think bit the dust this summer. It’s lost all its leaves. They just all of the sudden all went dry and crackly in the height of summer. Now all the leaves are gone, while pretty much every other tree still has all their leaves and are still bright green. I guess the drought from years past has finally killed off the poor thing. It was like three years of drought, I think, and from what I’ve been told (I haven’t verified), it can take years for trees to finally succumb to the effects. They just slowly die, I guess.

Anyway, so that one might need to come down soon.

Each time I work on the property here I start thinking about getting my own place (sigh). Baby steps. I’m still not quite there yet. Goal is cash, and let’s just say… I’m quite a way away from being able to do that. Quite a ways.

Still… always making progress in that area, too. I’m not sure where I’d like to live yet. The south is far too hot and sticky for me. The midwest… is not as bad as the south but still pretty hot and sticky. Well… most of the east/midwest/south is that way. The west is taken. At least all the places that I’d like to be. The parts that aren’t taken are often too hot for too long, too dry, too cold for too long. Too crowded. Too expensive.

I’m a wimp. 🙃

I’ll probably need to just suck it up and go for something that’s not optimal, but we’ll see. I’m fighting the temptation right now to go look for land. It’s 11:09, so I really shouldn’t. I still need to shower, brush my teeth, talk with Captain Universe for a little bit, and then crash.

But… I want to go looking or beds to buy, vans to buy, excavators to buy, dozers to buy, land to buy… Yeah. 🙃

Anyway, it’s been a good day. I’m in a bring-it-on mood. Which is nice. After fighting out of the pit I was in, it’s nice to be back in this state of mind, ready to push forward through whatever comes.

So…

#1. I’m grateful for tractors. I love heavy equipment. So powerful, but also so slow. So… relaxing. The slow pace of life. I just… I love it.

#2. I’m grateful to have made progress on the back side yard, to have opened things up a little bit more. It doesn’t feel so awkward back there anymore, trying to maneuver vehicles in a tight space, and it will look even better once it’s grassed over. I guess I’m adding more places that need to be mowed, but… oh well. 🙂

#3. Oh! I just had an idea. And I’ll make it my gratitude number three. I think I’ve figured out a way to reduce the issues with the weeds growing into to the mowing path (especially the blackberries that grow over and slice and stick you when you go by. I’ll just mow deeper into the woods to the point where the shade inhibits the grass weeds from growing much! Then… I wont have to deal with it so much!

#4. I’m grateful for my little miracle Honda. Took it to town today. So nice to have a car with working AC. Simple pleasures. So few of my cars over the years have had working AC.

#5. I’m grateful for freezers. I’ve been getting a bag of frozen veggies in my diet every day for the last four days, I think. That’s progress. Trying to eat better.

Well, my wonderful lovelies. Onward. We’re making progress. For any who are curious. I’m not going to omit this stuff anymore. I’d taken it for granted and stopped holding myself accountable with y’all, and then I started slipping in different areas. So… here’s my stuff.

That’s as of today. So… I’ll try to get back on the board tomorrow with the up at 5:30. We’ll see how that goes.

Okay, lift the world!
