2020-09-14 — An Ounce of Preparation

Hola fabulous friendlies 😊.

Happy Monday! It’s been another good day today: This one of the more “meh” variety. I was reminded of a pretty important lesson, though: An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

I mention that because even though I have all day on Sunday to organize things for my clients and employee for Monday, I always seem to put it off until the end of the day–put off talking to most of them. That usually means that I often lose customers because they go elsewhere.

It’s hard though, because I want some extended block of time during the week when I’m not working, but then I lose customers because I don’t get back to them as quickly as they want me to. I have a pre-written text I’ve composed that I’m supposed to send out to all my customers when I text them. It says something like “Things are pretty crazy, so if I don’t get back to you as soon as you’d like, please ping me.”

Anyway, I haven’t ever gotten in the habit of using it. In fact, I haven’t sent it out for ages. I need to get in the habit. That’ll help to a major degree, I think, so the people who are more likely to get annoyed because I don’t respond for a day will text, and I won’t lose the jobs.

An ounce of preparation is worth a pound of cure.

So… yeah… I started the day slammed with customers. Or so I thought. But many of them I hadn’t been in contact with since Saturday or early Sunday. So… I lost multiple customers today and went from being slammed to hoping I even had enough work for my tech to do (not including me).

In the end, he did have enough work, thankfully, but it was a lesson I hope I’ll finally learn–to do what needs to be done when it needs to be done. Do the right thing now. Don’t put it off. If I’m unhappy with the amount of time I have off, there are other things I can do about that. Until then, I have an employee counting on me for his family’s livelihood, and I need to suck it up and

Anyway, it wasn’t bad. It wasn’t amazing. It was a good day. Good to be reminded of that lesson.

On a not-so-happy note, I had a couple people give me one star reviews today–neither of whom do I have any idea who are. One was mad because apparently she couldn’t leave a message, which likely wasn’t my company because people leave messages all the time, and I know my message inbox isn’t full. Another person just gave a one star without a review without writing any comments, and I don’t recognize the name at all, so…?

So… those reviews are a little discouraging. Google doesn’t let you contact the reviewers, and they don’t notify them if there’s a response to their review, so… yeah. It’s pretty much permanent, and it’s tough to build back from 1 star reviews. They knock you down in a hurry.

Oh well… Life goes on. We’ll get more good reviews. 😊

Some other progress today… I was starting to get pretty far behind in my hydration, and instead of pushing it, which I was tempted to do out of shear laziness, I went into the store and bought a few bottles of powerade, drank two of them, and started feeling a lot better.

Also, my dinner tonight consisted of nothing but rabbit food. Broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, avocados, and the little orange thingies. Oh… I ate some cheese, too.

I still need to drink some.

Oh, another thing. I love the feeling you later in the day after weight lifting when your body is like “give me more!” It’s so energizing 😃.

#1. I’m grateful to have had enough work for my tech today.

#2. I’m grateful to have gotten up at 5:30 two days in a row!

#3. I’m grateful to have been able to get the weed whacker running at least enough to weed back the living daylights out of most of the yard. It wasn’t running very well, but it was good enough to at least get stuff done.

#4. I’m grateful to be able to lift those that are struggling. It’s one of the most rewarding things I think I could even conceive of. Lift the World.

#5. I’m grateful to be making progress on organizing the house and keeping things decent looking doing my 5X5.

#6. I’m grateful for two days in a row of getting all my dailies done.

By way of accountability…
