2021-07-02 — Utterly Exhausted, On All Counts

I’m… utterly exhausted.

Lots of work. Not a bad day, just… long. First job went really well, except that I apparently never transferred my spark plug gap tools to my new van. Not sure where they are, but they didn’t make it to the van, so when I went to do the spark plug job, it was… no dice. Fortunately, AutoZone delivers to me, and I was grateful to have them deliver those tools, so I could keep working and not have to leave to drive 20 minutes each way to the parts store to get the tools I needed.

So that job actually went really well, other than that little snafu. Then it was back to the ’05 Escape and the nightmare alternator issue. I spent probably 45 minutes testing and retesting and retesting to make sure that the alternator was indeed good to go and not shorting out of the box. I’m still a little baffled by that issue, but that alternator is done. So… warranty labor claim on that one. And now a warranty labor claim on another one.

I realized that my third car was actually an existing customer who was dealing with overheating issues and was getting a pretty hefty quote from the dealer, saying she needed a fan assembly and a thermostat. She did need the fan assembly, but she didn’t need the thermostat.

Crazy thing is that I replaced that fan assembly in December, so… it went bad already. The control module was internally shorted (like that alternator… apparently), and one of the fans burned up and completely seized.

Even though it was a warranty job, she gave me $100 (I think mostly because she was interested in me and was sort of hitting on me a little and even asked if she could give me a hug because I was such a cool guy. 🙃)

I… declined the hug, …and her offer of a glass of wine. 🙃

And then I went home… at like 11:30.

Tired. Long day. I’m wearing a sweatshirt to cover my oily, burned, scraped up arms.

Lost my cool today with that radiator fan job, the last one. It was going fine until it took like an hour, or whatever it was, to put in two screws, and it was so late, and… I probably had like 5 premeditated curse words come out. I was so mad.

Chrysti… actually apparently improved a little bit. Not sure how that’s possible (and I don’t mean toward recovery). It’s so tough for the family here right now.

I’m… not doing very well right now.

At least I can go to sleep now. Good night.
