2021-07-21 — Butt Kicked

Today kicked my butt. Up one side and down the other…most of it (the day), anyway. I went to my first job (spark plugs in a 2011 Ford Expedition), but it had just been driven, so it was too hot to remove the plugs without risking damaging the heads (which would be a multi-thousand-dollar catastrophe). So I left that one and went over to what I thought was going to be a warranty job, only to find out that somehow I hadn’t properly tightened down the fuel pump retainer ring. At least, as best I can tell it was my fault. So… I redid the whole job because I had to drop the tank, clean it out, etc., but this time… it was all free.

Then it was back to the Expedition, where I managed to screw up again by forgetting to blow all the crap off the engine before pulling the coils, which landed a ton of debris down the spark plug holes, some of which took literally hours to remove because it was jammed in there at odd angles. What was supposed to take about an hour and a half probably took… four or five.

I was so frustrated. So frustrated.

By the time I finished that job, it was like… 6 p.m. already, with only one paying job done. Fortunately, the last two went well. Put on a tow hitch for one person and then diagnosed and fixed a no start for another (was just a loose battery ground connection).

I got home around 8:30 or 9, and I’ve been trying to get my business affairs in order. The goal is to spend a couple hours each day working on all the tax stuff to try to get that all figured out.

Anyway, so that’s the day. I’m grateful that I’m feeling a tad bit of motivation to get this tax stuff done and not just dread. So… that’s something. I’m gonna finish getting 2021 organized date and then work backwards, I think.

Something like that, anyway.
