2021-09-01 — On the Mend?

Grateful my hip is feeling a good bit better. Still not 100%, but much better. Still don’t know what even happened.

Grateful to be less over the edge than I have been (though I’m still over the edge).

Grateful to have made a bunch of progress on tax stuff today. Inch by inch.

Grateful my last two jobs for postponed. Wasted my time going to each, but I was hammered from being already over the edge before starting the day and then being out in some fairly oppressive heat.

Grateful one of my sisters is coming to visit tomorrow for a few days.

Had a good chat with a customer today who’s a very interesting gentleman and very well connected in the world of famous people, apparently. Was encouraging in a way.

Only did three paying jobs today. Been a bit rough the last few days. Long days still but not much to show for it.

First job was a diag of a Pacifica. It’s gonna need internal transmission work. My diagnosis was a bad torque converter clutch solenoid. Told them to take it to a tranny shop for confirmation and repair.

Second job was a lady who didn’t want a diagnosis, just wanted me to put in a throttle body. So I did, but it didn’t solve the issue. So I did a partial diag for free for her… misfire, likely caused by a bad valve in the head. Expensive. 😬

Third job was the eclectic gentleman. It was just replacing a battery connection.

Tried to fix the Audi. Rabbit home I have up on. Man Volkswagens are a pain. No wonder so many places won’t work on them. Had to take the airbag and steering wheel off just to get to the ignition lock cylinder and ignition switch, only to find out the switch is built in to the cylinder, and the whole works has to be drilled out to be replaced.

Thanks Volkswagen/Audi.

Ugh.

Then it was on two the last two that both got postponed after getting there and realizing first, more was needed, and the second, they had the wrong part.

But that guy me home faster. I probably would have pushed myself through them had that not happened, and I would have gone way way over the edge.

So… what I hoped for, happened, gratefully.

It’s late. Have a young man who wants to shadow me tomorrow because he thinks he might want to be a mechanic. He’ll be here about 9, so I best be getting some shut eye pronto.
