2021-12-20 — Cracks and Cold

Another day in the books. Slept in. Didn’t get much done this morning because of that. Headed out to work fairly early. Did five cars– #1. Lexus RX 330 needing a coolant overflow bottle. Cracked on the bottom, for the multipleth(?) time. I had to replace the whole radiator fan assembly because you can’t just remove just the overflow bottle like you can on every other car? Good gravy. I didn’t quote enough for this one. Took a lot longer than I’d thought, was way far away.

#2. Was a 2015 Toyota Camry that she’d driven through a flooded street. I pulled apart the intake, dried out the water, pulled the spark plugs, cranked the motor, and made sure all was good.

#3. Was a Ford Ranger that wouldn’t start, was the truck of a AutoZone employee. Turned out the positive battery cable was so corroded that it wouldn’t let the voltage through. Cleaned it up, and it was ready to go.

#4. Was a 2000 Honda Accord that wouldn’t start. The security light was flashing, indicating the key wasn’t recognized and thus not letting the car start.

#5. Was a no start 1996 Silverado. He’d put in a fuel pump. I could hear the pump running, but I checked everything else, and when I went back to test the pump, it was making it’s noise, but it wasn’t pumping anything out. Bad pump out of the box.

Was tough in the cold today. Plastic was breaking… I think three out of five cars?

Trouble with the dozer, too. The first weld didn’t take at all. Everything had to be ground back out. The second weld got interrupted when diesel fuel started leaking on the welders while they were operating torches. ๐Ÿ˜ถ

It was a hot weld, and it has to be kept warm. If it cools too quickly, it’ll crack. It’s super cold outside. I’m afraid it’s gonna crack again. I had a block heater, so we put that on there to try to keep it warm.

Fingers crossed.

I almost made enough money today to cover the… uh… progress? ๐Ÿ™ƒ

I hope the weld holds and takes. I really hope it does.

Oh, got my sales taxes submitted for the month. Today was the deadline. Glad I got it done.

Time for bed. Goodnight, all.

Lift the World.

  1. “Got my sales taxes submitted for the month.” Woohoo!! ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚
Also… Way to work on getting the dozer into operating shape. Hope the weld holds! If not, may warmer weather do the trick. I think it’s great that you’re resurrecting it. That’s the old “make it do” principle. It’s gone out of fashion but may be coming back with a roar if our economy keeps this up. Make it do is a powerful principle!

    1. Thx. ๐Ÿ™‚ Unfortunately, I’m really concerned. I’m afraid the guy i hired might not know what he’s doing. I might just be ignorant, but there are starting to be some warning signs I’m pretty concerned about, what appear to be basic things that are getting missed. The new weld appears to have cracked already. I’m a lot of money into this already, and I think I’m throwing my money away at this point. ๐Ÿ˜•
