2022-03-03 — Overactive Conscience

You know, sometimes my honesty bone is annoying. And sometimes my “make sure everything is 100% for the customer” bone is annoying, too. πŸ™ƒ

That’s sort of the story for the day today.

I got up this morning, and I spent some time working to stay current with my 2022 financials (yes, I’m learning from my mistakes!!!. πŸ™ƒ). I went through all the credit card purchases for the first two months of the year and made sure I had everything accounted for properly. So that was good.

I then went out to work on cars for the day, spending about 7ish hours working repairing… car. Yep, just one. I mean, it was a big one, but it did take a lot longer than it should have because little mister me and my making sure everything is just right. (after I thought I was all done, I noticed some streaking on the rear rotors (I’d just replaced the pads and rotors in the rear), and I was concerned that maybe it was so brake parts grease that had gotten on the rotors. I remembered I spilled a dob about the size of a quarter of a head of a pin on the back of one rotor and forgot to clean it off, and then when I saw the weird streaking on the rotors, I was concerned there was a bunch of grease on them). Anyway, after I thought I was done, I ended up pulling the rear brakes back off to be absolutely sure it wasn’t grease. In the end, I honestly don’t know what it was, if it was just streaks from braking in the new pads or grease or what. It was weird. But I spent a lot of extra time making absolutely sure that it wasn’t grease.

I probably do the slowest brake jobs of anyone in the world. πŸ™ƒ

I’m pretty convinced that most mechanics just slap the pads and rotors on and don’t really bother to make sure things are just right. Why? Because it takes so blasted long to do it right, to make sure everything is exactly as it should be.

Eventually, I got done, thought the sun had long since set, and it was almost all the way dark, but I finished, and I came home, and then I embarked on another honesty-bone project–going back through the last few years records and contacting everyone that I accidentally overcharged sales tax on. There are some where it’s like $0.14, and it’s probably stupid to even bother contacting them, but… my conscience is like, this isn’t right. It’s not square. I want to make sure this is right.

ugh.

(sigh)

So I feel a bit embarrassed sending out the messages, and some people are probably annoyed getting the messages, but some people are also… inspired? So that’s kind of cool.

Anyway, it’s coming up on midnight. I’m still plugging along on the financial stuff I’m cleaning up, but it’s sure nice to have the taxes stuff done and submitted (I did finally actually submit 2021 after having completed it on Sunday. I think I submitted it yesterday.

Well, folks, in a different vein, I was happy to see that someone finally put a large reward, payable to anyone who arrests Putin and tries him as a war criminal. Hope we get many more people making similar offers. I hope we Ukraine can pull this out. They’re so outgunned, outmanned… but they have heart. I hope the Russians lose theirs, give up, surrender, and don’t fight for Putin. I really hope that the defense Ukraine has been putting up is equal to or more than what they say it is. I don’t really trust anything completely that comes out, but I hope it’s accurate. It’s obviously wildly different than what the Russian media says.

If you haven’t already, please donate a few pennies, whatever you can afford, to Ukraine. And if you have already, thank you!!!

We’re all Ukraine!

Love to all of you.

Lift the World.
