2026-05-29 (Friday) — Weeding and Thistle Feeding

(written on the 30th from notes taken yesterday)

I guess I slept in a little bit longer today, because I barely got up in time to see Heather off to work.

I was still bleary eyed as she rolled away. 🙃

I spent some time working on my morning dailies, but I didn’t get almost any of my physical therapy done. 😬

I dragged the horse apples into oblivion, and I’m going to try and do that twice a day now to help keep the flies down.

Let’s see… the windows guy and the materials guy came today, which was great. 🙏 Most of what they talk about is over my head, as I just don’t have the experience or education yet to understand what all they are talking about, but Heather and Hans understand.

After they left, I spent some time working on Rover. The ferry lights that I bought arrived a handful of days ago, or so, but there were some planks of wood adhered to the underside of the fiberglass that I had yet to remove that were in the path I wanted to use for stringing up the fairy lights.

I’m a little concerned that the fairy lights aren’t going to be very bright. I bought a string with something like 500 lights on it, I think, but when I turned them on while they were still spooled up, they seemed pretty dim.

Hopefully that was just because they’re spooled up. 🤞

Anyway, so I managed to get those boards removed and some of the other leftover construction adhesive removed as well. 🙏 It’s not easy, requiring careful use of a hammer and chisel to get it off.

If I wanted to get every last bit of it off, I’d need to use my grinder, but I don’t really have the desire to spend a whole bunch of time putting up plastic for the dust and getting myself one of those expensive filters to breed through.

If he were younger, I might go through the hassle (and also paint the inside of the fiberglass shell), but Rover has more than 280,000 miles on him now, so he might not last a whole lot longer.

Hopefully, he will 🤞, but I think I’ll save putting that kind of time and effort into my next traveling home?

We’ll see.

I spent a good long time working on my journal catch-up efforts, going back to days that I had already written about and spending a ton of time correcting them, as I think I got events mismatched.

Ugh.

So. much. wasted. time.

C’mon, Stephen, just write every night like you used to.

Please.

[sigh]

I think I watched YouTube videos to catch up on the tech news that I love so much while I did the dishes. Got myself and lunch and worked more on my journal catch-up efforts, as I’m so far behind again. 😕

I put some gas in the four-wheeler and dragged the horse apples again. Then I did a little bit of weeding, pulling out a whole bunch of thistles.

The horses seem to enjoy eating the thistles, so I called them over and fed them. 🙃

Did some more journaling… and some more weeding and thistle feeding. Chatted with Heather and Hans for a bit… listened to a great and somewhat surprising talk from nearly 40 years ago from Elder Packer, veged out, took journal notes 😕, and called it a night.

I’ve been feeling myself slipping spiritually a little bit over the last few days, and that… isn’t so great.

At the same time, I can really feel the difference when I fill my life with gospel things as opposed to… not.

And that is wonderful for me. I’ve wanted to get back to that place. I love the peace and serenity that comes with filling my life with light. 🤍

I’m grateful. 🙏

Oh! First big toad of the year. You can’t tell from the picture, but it’s probably about half the size of my fist?

Lift the world.

Bring it on.
