2026-06-03 (Wednesday) — Pokey Plant Day

(written on June 4th from notes taken previously)

My spine was definitely very unhappy this morning. I woke up a gazillion times and really didn’t want to be awake, so I kept trying to force myself to fall asleep again. And again. And again…

Eventually, I did fall asleep for a decent while, not waking up until after 9.

And then I was groggy. 😆

I brought an apple core over to the horsies, grabbed my gloves, and headed down to start pulling up all the Canada thistle down by the tractor.

With the perhaps half an inch to an inch of rain that we’ve gotten over the last couple days of storm, it was much easier to pull the thistles out of the ground than it otherwise would be.

And the horses appreciated the thistle feast. 😋

After thistling and letting the horses out to munch on the grass a bit, I grabbed the shovel and my extra trash can and started wandering around the horse pasture looking for prickly pear cacti to remove, spending probably the next hour or so? digging up dozens of nopalitos that were all over.

There are still a fair number to dig up, but I made major headway. 🎉

I was also happy to see that all four little killdeer chicks are still alive and running all over creation with their parents standing guard.

I don’t remember if I mentioned it or not, but I think there were two broods of chicks last year, and none of them survived. 😞

Maybe an owl got them? Or a cat?

Got my muck and drag (MAD) on and then tried to take care of Zorra a little bit (I realized I’ve been spelling her name wrong!).

She’s been sick, throwing up a bit, so I gave her some anti-nausea pills and crossed my fingers. 🤞

Chatted with my sister Heather on the phone for a couple of hours while she was between work events and then watched YouTube videos while doing the dishes.

After Hans got home, I took the horses back out and journaled while they did a little weeding and Hans mowed the lawn.

Hans mentioned that the damp spot that sometimes appears after rain in the basement was the worst he’s ever seen it, so I messaged neighbor Darrin, and he came over to give his thoughts.

Such a great guy. 🙏

We likely basically just need to get the drainage hose properly placed, the yard contoured, and foundation backfilled, etc.

🤞

Texted with Heather a bit, had a great conversation with Cory (who had some excellent thoughts to share with me. 🙏), and after evening prayer, climbed into my van, ate dinner, watched some YouTube videos, and journaled before crashing for the night.

I’m almost caught up with my journal again. 🙃

Lift the world.

Bring it on.
