2026-08-18 (Tuesday) — Busy Like a Beaver

(written on August 23rd from notes taken previously)

I got up late again this morning, late enough that both my mom and Thomas were gone, and the house was locked.

I had a key somewhere, but I couldn’t find it right away, and I didn’t need to be there, so I just headed on over to Haven Hill.

My first stop was over to Liz’s place with some more stuff that I wanted to offer to her before taking it to the Samaritan Shop, etc. There was some stuff that she wanted, so it was nice to be able to give it to family first. 🙏

After that, I headed up to the barn to spend time de-nailing, de-screwing, and cutting up the old construction wood that has already been sitting there as well as the wood that I had brought up from down by the greenhouse in the lower, back pasture.

I spent most of the rest of the day doing that. 🙃

Here’s what the pile looked like to start today. I had already mostly cleared out one pile in a previous cutting day, but with everything coming from down by the greenhouse, it was a pretty huge pile.

I spent a whole ton of time removing nails and screws and metal greenhouse hardware from the wood. Certainly not the best use of my time, but… it’s what I did today. 😅

In addition to spending a bunch of time prepping the wood to cut and cutting it, I also spent some time pulling stuff out of and organizing my van a bit. Gratefully, Jim, despite being quite tired, came out to help cut wood for a bit a couple of times, and we did manage to get quite a bit cut. 🎉

It’s definitely looking better out there, and Jim’s now got a significant amount of wood cut and ready to burn (come winter) in the wood stove he’s got there in his shop.

Unfortunately, I didn’t take a picture that shows progress we made whittling that pile down.

Oh well.

Jim and Steph invited me over for dinner, which was nice, and we chatted for a bit before I headed back outside to clean everything up (which took a little while 🙃).

Back at my mom’s place, I ended up eating a second dinner and chatting for a bit before heading out to my van and veging before crashing for the night.

Lift the world.

Bring it on.
