2026-07-02 (Thursday) — Divide and Conquer

(written on the 5th from notes taken previously)

I was up quite early this morning, spending a good while on my journal catch-up efforts and again making more progress. πŸ™

I’m grateful for that. 😊

Oh! I keep forgetting to mention that my microwave works! πŸ™ƒ I used it for the first time… last week was it? and it worked beautifully!

Despite sitting for a year in a hot and then cold and then hot van, and despite getting tossed around on the wild 4×4 back roads of Dinosaur National Monument, it functioned flawlessly. 😊

πŸ™

Anyway, today was an uber productive day, which felt good. 😊 Hans had a day off work, and we divided and conquered.

He worked on the bigger project of getting everything squared away for the dry well pit, and I gave some thoughts here and there on that and other drainage-related stuff, but mostly I just pounded out several smaller tasks.

I got all the spikey yucca plants put in bins and a trash can. We’re not allowed to put the yard waste in the regular trash can, and since we’re out of city limits, we’re not allowed to use the green waste place that’s for city residents, so I guess we have to take it to the dump. 😢

One nice thing about Arkansas, we could burn burn burn (generally πŸ™ƒ).

I mucked and dragged. I took the mower deck off the mower, cleaning out a whole bunch of dirt and grass clippings and whatnot that was caked on. Then I removed the cutting blades, got out my grinder, and sharpened the blades.

Once the mower was back together, I mowed the rest of the yard that I hadn’t mowed the other day that needed to be mowed still.

Progress. 😊

Hans and I took a break from working out in the hot sun all day, and I got some food, spent a good bit of time trying to organize my genealogical notes and communications, ate some more, and called Cory, chatting for a little bit.

Next up on the docket was discussing the drainage of the future patio and what we wanted to do in preparation for that, so we spent time measuring things out, mocking up the patio itself, and trying to figure out what all to do. We were going to work on the slope of the drainage channel, but that’s pretty brutal, and Hans had already done a ton of that, so I volunteered to work on it tomorrow. Hopefully, it goes well.🀞

The last thing I was able to get done was getting the majority of the weeding done from around the trailer and shipping container, which I’m happy about (and so are the horses? They won’t eat that stuff when they are out munching, but they will when I put it all up and dump it over into their paddock (at Heather’s suggestion)?

😢

And they wouldn’t eat it the other day when I gave it to them, but they did today?

πŸ€”

🀷

No idea. πŸ™ƒ But it was a great day of progress. πŸ™

When Heather got home from work, we did a little show and tell, and we happily scarfed down the ice cream she brought home.

I veged a bit. Tried not to lament that BYD stock went up a bunch more, just as I’d predicted (though it’s still likely to go up a lot more.

We ate dinner and listened to a talk from Elder Holland, after which I might or might not have eaten more ice cream πŸ™ƒ, before crashing for the night.

Lift the world.

Bring it on.
